Kate Rhodes – Ruin Beach (The Isles Of Scilly Mysteries book 2)

Welcome back, everyone! Today’s review is for Ruin Beach by Kate Rhodes. The second book in the Isles Of Scilly Mysteries. Thanks again go to Tracy Fenton of Compulsive Readers Book Tours, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for the gifted ebook to write my honest review.

THE ISLAND OF TRESCO HOLDS A DARK SECRET SOMEONE WILL KILL TO PROTECT.

Ben Kitto has become the Scilly Isles’ Deputy Chief of Police. As the island’s lazy summer takes hold, he finds himself missing the excitement of the murder squad in London. But when the body of professional diver Jude Trellon is discovered, anchored to the rocks of a nearby cave, his investigative skills are once again needed.

At first it appears that the young woman’s death was a tragic accident, but when evidence is found that suggests otherwise, the islanders close ranks. With even those closest to the victim refusing to talk, it seems that plenty of people might have had reason to harm her. As the islanders remain guarded, Ben Kitto suspects a killer is on the loose in Tresco.

Everyone is a suspect.
Nobody is safe.

To say I was happy to be able to read Ruin Beach would be a massive understatement! The second book in The Isles of Scilly Mysteries meant a return to Ben Kitto, back in his childhood home.

This book sees him as the Scilly Isles Deputy Chief of Police. He is beginning to miss the excitement of the murder squad in London with the peaceful and lazy life of the islands. That is until the body of a professional diver is found, anchored to the rocks of a nearly cave. He finds himself embroiled in what turns out to be a murder investigation. One which seems to have more to it than anyone thought. Ben Kitto has his work cut out for him…will he be able to find the killer?

I have no idea why this series has passed me by before this. Kate Rhodes has created a series that I can’t get enough of. Her skilful descriptions of the setting, again, took there. I felt that I could see the places as I read. The authenticity again is paramount. I felt that the author had researched so well to make the parts of the story about diving and the legends so real. Not to the point of being bored to death about diving, just enough so the reader is assured in the realism of everything.

Another compelling and addictive story that I couldn’t put down. I’m still puzzling over why I haven’t read this series before! It is an excellent addition to the series. I couldn’t recommend The Isles of Scilly Mysteries any more than I do!
