Susan Willis – Death At The Caravan Park

I’m posting my review for Death At The Caravan Park by Susan Willis. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Susan Willis for the gifted ebook. Also, my apologies for the post being late.

Clive Thompson heads for Whitley Bay caravan park to finish writing his novel. He’s never had a caravan holiday before and is warmly greeted by the manager, Liz Mathews, who lives on the park. She is single and cares for her ninety year old mother who has Alzheimer’s Disease. Clive meets the people in neighbouring caravans and has an amazing view from his veranda over the sea to St. Mary’s Lighthouse. However, Audrey goes missing during the night and Liz is beside herself with worry.  The police are out looking for her, but disillusioned by their efforts, Clive begins his own investigations.

The first book I have read from Susan Willis. Death At The Caravan Park is the second book in A Clive Thompson investigates series. I haven’t read the first one, so I didn’t know what to expect.

It’s easily read as a standalone as I discovered. Set in Whitley Bay, we meet Clive Thompson. A man who has decided to go on a caravan holiday. He is sure this is the way he will be able to finish his book. When the park owners elderly mother, who is suffering from Alzheimers, goes missing. Clive decides to investigate as the local police are certainly lacking. Will he be able to solve the mystery, or will the police manage the job?

A cosy mystery with a vivid and detailed setting. Whitley Bay came alive in my head as I read. I was transported away from my front room to Whitley Bay by Clive’s side so easily.

I was definitely hooked by Susan Willis’s storytelling. Clive’s investigations kept me on my toes throughout. I was never once bored as there was always something to try to work out. It was a one more chapter read for sure as the clues kept coming. I loved the suspense and intrigue, too.

Clive himself was a character that I cheered on as I read. Susan Willis has created many interesting and well developed characters in Death At The Caravan Park. Being the second book, it is interesting to see them still developing. This makes them more authentic, and I felt I could be friends with Clive in particular.

A new series that is fun to read and has all the right elements to make it a page turning, addictive and colourful read. I need to read the first book now!
