Arlene Pearson – Secrets Of The Monument

I’m on the tour for Secrets of the Monument by Arlene Pearson. Tha ks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Arlen Pearson for my gifted book to write my honest review.

– In this intriguing dual-time story, two very different love stories prevail –

2015

Verity and Jeremy are idyllically happy in their new home, a country cottage at the foot of an old Greek temple on a green hill.  He has promised her there will be no more surprises – until his chaotic music producer nephew turns up to stay and causes havoc.

1946

Amelia and Ed

Torn apart in distressing circumstances, is the romance between the daughter of the Lord of the Manor and the son of a pitman over before it ever really began?

When Verity’s Grandad Ed asks her to find his first love after sixty-seven years, to reveal a life changing secret, she embarks upon a journey that takes her to different shores.  When worlds that are generations apart collide, will the mystery of the monument be revealed?  Also, will Verity finally be able to shake off the turbulence of her own past and find a deeper love and understanding wins the day?

This was my first book by Arlene Pearson, but as soon as I saw it was a dual timeline story, I was sold. I love a dual timeline story!

Set in 1946 with Amelia and Ed, and 2015 with Verity and James. Both stories running parallel. They are very different but at the same time similar. It’s such a simple cover but one that struck a chord in me.

Arlene Pearson has written a story that slowly gripped me. I was so invested in all four of these characters and what was happening as I sat and read. The 1946 timeline has been researched so well. I felt like I was with both couples through history as their stories played out.

The characterisations are extremely well done. They were relatable and the women strong. It became emotional as the story unfolded with themes of loss, love, and sadness.

I thoroughly enjoyed both timelines and revelled in the richness of Arlene Pearson’s storytelling.
