John Nicholl – The Bride

I’m on the blog tour for The Bride by John Nicholl. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the gifted ebook in order to write my honest review.

She’s on trial for murder… Now it’s her turn to tell her story…

The truth is that I loved James with my whole heart. We were soulmates: meant to be together forever. On the morning of our wedding, I had just found out I was carrying his child.

But it’s time to tell my side of the story. It’s time everyone knew what happened on that wedding day, on our honeymoon, and on that fateful last drive together. It’s time everyone found out about the secrets and about the threat that loomed over our marriage. It’s time everyone found out who really killed James.

Another psychological thriller from John Nicholl. It’s always a treat when his new book lands on my Kindle. I just know he can tick every box for me with his writing.

Told through letters written by Daisy to the child she is carrying. She is awaiting trial in prison for murder. The story takes us to Daisy, who has just told her new husband, James, that she is pregnant while on their way back from their honeymoon. They stop off on the way, but James doesn’t come back. Daisy starts to worry and realises he has gone missing.

It’s a story that captivated me from the off. The flashbacks give the reader a picture of Daisy and James’s relationship, one that’s not as perfect as you would think either. Daisy captured my heart, but there are definitely flaws and other characters that are clearly not as likeable. I was so interested in what was unfolding. I just read as much as I could until I had no choice but to put the book down.

John Nicholl has the recipe for an unputdownable read. Every chapter I was determined, I was just reading that chapter. Until the end of said chapter! It’s a dark, tense, and thrilling read. One that held me from start to finish. John Nicholl is high on my favourite author list, and The Bride only further cements that opinion!

And I need everyone to believe me. To believe I’m not a killer. Because if they don’t, then my baby won’t just have no father… she’ll have no mother.
