Felicity George – A Courtesan’s Worth

I’m over the moon to bring you my review for A Courtesan’s Worth by Felicity George. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Felicity George for the copy of this beautiful looking book!

A mistress cannot marry for love…

As one of the famous Preece sisters, Kitty is the most sought-after courtesan in London. But with the vicious Duke of Gillingham scaring away any man who looks her way, securing a new arrangement with a wealthy gentleman will be no easy feat. Kitty’s only hope to find someone suitable is through her loyal and cherished friend, the Reverend Sidney Wakefield.

Sidney has devoted his life to the church, but it was never by choice. He is a writer and Kitty his muse. As he is roped into Kitty’s plotting, he begins to realise that protecting her from the malevolent Duke comes at a price – and it might mean losing Kitty to someone else entirely.

As Kitty and Sidney try to find a way out, it becomes clear that years of friendship have developed into something deeper. Except that they are from different worlds and Kitty’s heart has never been hers to give away…

I am a reader who enjoys a broad range of genres. Regency romance is one I don’t read overly a lot of, but when I do, I always get whisked away with the times and romance of it all. Felicity George certainly did that.

Before I say anything else, I just want to say check the cover out! It’s beautiful, I want a paperback copy of this book just so I can have that cover to make me happy every day. Apart from the cover, the blurb made this a book I was glad I was going to read.

Set in the summer of 1918, I was transported back in time immediately. I felt like I was in Regency London. The characters were so well crafted that they could have been real. Felicity George excellently portrays their personalities, the good and bad. I have to say I was rooting for Sidney, a Reverend who has devoted himself to the Church. He is a hopeless romantic and in total love with Kitty. A woman who knows who she loves, but her life is not her own to choose.

This is such an emotional rollercoaster of a read.just as I thought things would work for the characters. My hopes were dashed as the proverbial ‘spanner in the works’ loomed its ugly head!

An impeccably researched and written historical romance. It kept me invested with the dastardly deeds of some and the pure hope of Kitty finding her actual happy ever after. My eyes may have leaked a little at times. A must-read for any historical romance readers.
