Welcome all! I’m posting my review for The Way To The Sea by Victoria Connelly. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for the copy of the book to write my honest review. Apologies as well for being really late.

When Cate Rivers leaves her husband in the middle of the night with their young daughter, Eliza, she has no idea what the future holds. Taking a live-in position at Hollow House on the Dorset coast, she determines to make a new life for her and Eliza.
But Cate’s new boss, fossil hunter Charles Thorner, could do without the problems of a couple of runaways under his roof. He’s got enough worries of his own, including a painful past which still holds him prisoner today.
As the two of them learn to work alongside each other, secrets are shared and a new closeness is found, but they soon discover that you can only hide from the past for so long…
The Way to the Sea is the latest heartwarming novel by the bestselling author of The Beauty of Broken Things and The Rose Girls.
Ever since I read my first book by Victoria Connelly, I have been a big fan of her writing. She creates contemporary stories that have very authentic and well-rounded characters. The issues are all ones that are relevant to today’s world and make for an emotional and touching read.
The Way To The Sea introduces us to Cate and Eliza, her eight year old daughter. They have escaped domestic violence in the middle of the night. They are beginning again, with Cate having a new job working for Charles Thorner. A fossil hunter with his own painful past that haunts him each day. As Eliza spends time with Charles, she begins to slowly unfurl like a flower in the sunlight. Just as they all begin to settle, and, Cate thinks she can see light at the end of the tunnel it becomes apparent that the past can not be run from so easily.
There are three main characters, Cate, Charles, and Allie. Allie has her own battles, too, and we see them unfold as the story develops. Victoria Connelly has such skill in holding the reader in the palm of her hand while weaving a story that touches the very soul.
Every issue she brings is relevant to today’s world. Every book always leaves me thinking long after I have closed the book. The fact this book brings with it the plethora of emotions that come with domestic violence took me back a number of years to my past. It’s not just about domestic violence, though. It’s about the things that make us human to our very core. Every character tugged at my heart strings. I invested in them all, I didn’t want to leave them either. I felt a part of their world and was loathe to reach the end.
Victoria Connelly has again surpassed herself with The Way To The Sea, and I enjoyed it so much!
