Sylvia Wilson, a bar owner in St. Louis, Missouri, arrives at work to discover the body of an ex-police officer in her locked bar.
The police focus on her as their primary suspect, so she decides
to launch her own investigation into the dead man and his accomplices.
But when the killer sends her clear messages that she and her loved ones are on his radar, she knows it’s just a matter of time before someone ends up dead.
This was a book that interested me from the outset. From an author I haven’t heard of before so I had no idea what to expect. I just started reading with an open mind, and I found a brand new author to keep my eye on!
What do you do when you arrive at your own bar to open up and find a dead body inside? Only you know the security code to get in and to make it one hundred times worse than it already is…its an ex-cop who is dead! Well, Sylvia Wilson became prime suspect by the police. But she has her mind set on finding out all about the dead man and his accomplices. Even though her brother is on the force, and she has been warned away. Sylvia isn’t going to let little details stop her! Then, the killer begins to send clear messages that she and her family are in his sights. She realises there may be more at stake than she first thought.
With a character like Sylvia, this was always going to be such an intriguing read. A woman who knows her own mind and no one will change it for her. She has her flaws, and she knows it. I loved this woman. She was so realistic, and I was behind her all the way! To be honest, I can’t blame her wanting to know how someone had her security code. I would have wanted to know, too.
Wendy Koenig’s skilful writing made me feel like I was by Sylvia’s side while she was investigating. This always makes me feel part of the story, and this author managed that. The pages flew by way too quickly. Before I knew it, I was finished and leaving Sylvia behind. It is a brand new series that I am happy to have been introduced to.

Wendy Koenig is a published author living in New Brunswick, Canada. Her first piece to be printed was a short children’s fiction, Jet’s Stormy Adventure, serialized in The Illinois Horse Network. She attended University of Iowa, honing her craft in their famed summer workshops and writing programs. Since that time, she has published and co-authored numerous books and has won several international awards.
