Catherine Fearns – Consuming Fire

‘Consuming Fire’ by Catherine Fearns is the second book in the series beginning with Reprobation, that I reviewed yesterday. I was really glad I had Consuming Fire to hand as I finished Reprobation. I was eager to read what was next for Swift and Helen. Catherine has written another page-turner with an ending that I didn’t see coming. In this instalment, we find Swift in the middle of the action and we see much more of his back story and his life, just as we learned about Helen in the previous book.

Catherine Fearns

As the story develops it takes us back to Liverpool as we were in the first book and Switzerland. Catherine Fearns has, again, described these places so well, I felt like I was there, it created a realistic story.
This story focuses on fires that are dangerous and unexplained around Liverpool. These are treated as random fires but Matt has a gut feeling, and sees the start of a pattern, but again, needs Helen and her theological skills. This time it’s demonology that’s required. A book bound in human skin sends them to Switzerland all the while attempting to solve the case.

This is another captivating unique book. I really enjoy the mix of thriller and the theological, demonology that comes with Helen. This, for me, is the stuff for T.V. It would make a great series!

Thanks to Rachel Random’s Resources and Catherin Fearns for the book to write this review today.
