I’m so happy to be hosting a stop on the blog tour for One Down by Diana Wilkinson. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the ARC of the book.

I’m not being paranoid! It’s all there in the crossword clues…in black and white.
There’s no doubt the threat is real. Today, the answers spell out my murder.
May Third. Amanda. Silver Birch. Noontime. Assassination.
Is Nathan, my estranged crossword-setter husband, really planning to kill me? Or is it someone closer to home?
I check the door is bolted, slither to the ground, and count down the seconds to noon. There’s nothing left to do, and no one I can call. Who’d believe me anyway? The lady on the ground floor has already left the building, and my new boyfriend is on holiday. Or is he?
A tread of footsteps. A rap at the door, and I close my eyes, hold my breath…

One Down is a book I have been eagerly waiting for. Diana Wilkinson never fails to bring a psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. I had high expectations, and they were fulfilled easily.
A psychological thriller that has a unique premise. One that is highly original and added to the overall suspense of the story. I loved how Diana Wilkinson used crossword puzzle clues and spent most of my time trying to figure it all out. Even with the explanations that were given in the story.
Amanda, the main character, is absolutely convinced that she was being targeted by crossword puzzle clues as they begin to become personal to her. As they start to grow more threatening, she realises she has no clue (see what I did there?) who to trust. This makes her doubt everyone, so she finds it harder to actually leave her own home. The question is: Are the clues really targeting her and who, if anyone, can she trust?
As I said, this is a fascinating and tense story that made me think throughout. I always love a psychological thriller with unreliable characters. It kept me guessing until the end. Every twist and turn was superbly placed, and the final one was brilliant! Diana Wilkinson definitely brought the creepy tone with this one, I couldn’t put it down at all! A must-read for any psychological thriller fan out there.
