Payback is the fourth book in The Allegiance Series. A gritty gangland thriller that continues the story of Seb Stoker and Sam Reynold. I was so ready to catch up with this couple and see how life was treating get them. Edie Baylis’s writing does this to me, she always makes characters that feel like you know them.
The previous book left Sam and Seb with more on their hands than enough. Payback sees Sam having arranged to get her mum into rehab and Seb doing his best to get enough money to rebuild bigger and better. After the losses, financial and personal in the last book, they are still attempting to get their heads around it all. They have lost people and there are people who have appeared back from their pasts as well. There is yet unfinished business to be done and these two plan to do it! Payback is the title, and payback is what Seb and Sam plan to do.
This is a series that I recommend you start from the first book. It can be read as a standalone very easily, but if you read all the books you get the full experience. That, is second to none! Characters and plot lines that will entertain you for constantly.
Payback hits the ground running as is the norm with any book by Edie Baylis. She successfully brings the brutal, gritty world of gangland crime to life right in front of your eyes. And keeps it first and forefront as you get to grips with everything what’s occurring.
As always with Edie Baylis, the characters are memorable in one way or another. Seb and Sam you do care about and there are plenty of characters that I found I hated.
A series I love for the action, characters and the gangland feel to it. Authenticity is key to a book such as this, and Edie Baylis has this…in spades!

She lives in Worcestershire, has a history of owning daft cars and several motorbikes and is licensed to run a pub.
