Val Penny – Hunter’s Revenge @ZooloosBT @valeriepenny #Huntersrevenge #SharonBTB

It’s my turn to post my review for ZooLoo’s Book Tours, on Val Penny’s book tour for Hunters Revenge. Thanks to both Zoe and Val Penny for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.

Hunter by name – Hunter by nature.

Detective Inspector Hunter Wilson is a loyal friend and a fair leader.

He is called to the scene of a murder in Edinburgh where the corpse has been fatally shot. He is dismayed to find the victim is his friend and colleague, George Reinbold. Hunter must investigate Reinbold’s murky past in Germany to identify George’s killer.

At the same time, Hunter is tasked with looking into a previously undetected criminal gang supplying drugs from Peru. There seems to be no connection between the murder and the drug supply until Hunter unexpectedly secures help from inmates of the local jail.

Hunter’s investigations are hampered by distracted members of his team and unobservant witnesses.

Reinbold was not the quiet, old man Hunter believed him to be and his killer bore their grudge for a lifetime.

Hunter’s Revenge is the explosive second book in the DI Hunter Wilson thriller series

Val Penny is an author whose work I am very familiar with. I have read the fifth and sixth Hunter books, so it makes a change to be reading one closer to the beginning of the series!

Hunters Revenge begins in East Germany 1968. Eighteen year old George Reinbold makes the biggest mistake of his young life. One that means he has to flee his country and leave his family to be tortured and murdered. 2013, he has lived in Edinburgh working as Head of Crime Scene Investigation, in fear of being caught up with since that day, many years ago.

D.I Hunter Wilson is called out to investigate a murder, to discover his friend George Reinbold has been shot in the head at point-blank range. Hunter has a case on his hands that has plenty of options. Will he get to the crux of the matter?

I did like the fact that I was getting to know Hunter from the ‘early days’. I knew the series was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read and wondered what the earlier books would be like. Well, I found out. It’s just as well written, with as much complexity as the later books and with characters that were just as intriguing and captivating.

This is definitely a series that goes from strength to strength. With not just Hunter’s investigation but there are multiple story threads that Val Penny weaves together without distracting from any of the story lines. The twists of the investigation leaving me always wanting more. The light humour that is sprinkled throughout makes it a tad lighter, but doesn’t take anything away from the story.

The detailed descriptions of Edinburgh have always made me feel like I can see it in my minds eye, and this book is no different. Val Penny has again made me feel part of the book in every way. It is a great series that I recommend for any police procedural or crime readers out there.
