I’m on the tour for A Child For The Reich by Andie Newton on behalf of Rachel’s Random Resources. Thanks to both Rachel and Harper Collins for the copy of the book to take part.

From the USA Today bestselling author comes a gripping new emotional WW2 historical novel. Inspired by a true story!
‘A moving story of a mother’s love battling against the determination of the Reich to create a pure Aryan race…A recommended read’ Glynis Peters
‘An intensely moving, brilliantly researched novel about love, loss, and the lengths a mother will go to for her child…utterly compelling’ Deborah Carr
Rumours of the Nazis coming for Czech children swept through the villages like a breeze through the trees, and the story was always the same…
They wanted our children to raise as their own.
Since her husband, Josef, joined the Czech resistance three years ago, Anna Dankova has done everything possible to keep her daughter, Ema, safe. But when blonde haired, blue-eyed Ema is ripped from her mother’s arms in the local marketplace by the dreaded Brown Sisters, nurses who were dedicated to Hitler’s cause, Anna is forced to go to new extremes to take back what the Nazis have stolen from her.
Going undercover as a devoted German subject eager to prove her worth to the Reich, the former actress takes on a role of a lifetime to find and save her daughter. But getting close to Ema is one thing.
Convincing her that the Germans are lying when they claim Anna stole her from her true parents is another…
Historical fiction is always a genre I tend to thoroughly enjoy. No matter which century the book is in. I find I am educated and entertained as well. Child Of The Reich was no different. From a new author to me Andie Newton. I read the blurb and saw it was set in World War 11, I just knew I would be in my element.
A story that’s based on the Lebensborn programme which the Nazi’s put in place during the Second World War. This meant they basically kidnapped thousands of children that filled the Aryan agenda from the occupied countries. They were then adopted by German families to boost the Nazi view of the perfect child, within the population. This was done by the female version of the SS, the NSV. The women from the NSV were known as the ‘Brown sisters’
Anna Dankova lives in occupied Prague with her daughter, Ema. Her husband, Josef, has joined the Czech Resistance so she is doing her best to protect her daughter from bring taken by the Brown sisters. Until the day when they are at the market, Ema is ripped out of Anna’s arms by the Brown Sisters. Anna takes it upon herself to attempt to get her daughter back and doesn’t care what danger she puts herself in to do it.
This was a book that brought up a lot of emotions for me. I found it harrowing, tense and emotional as the story unfolded. I found it beautifully written and I was definitely engrossed throughout. The Lebensborn programme is not something I’m familiar with so, as always I was educated a little more about the atrocities of the Nazi’s.
Andie Newton has created created well developed characters. Anna is a strong and determined woman who will do anything to protect and later find Ema. I related to her so much. The loss of her child hit me too, as a mother, I understood her pain. Andie Newton has perfectly written a mothers experience of just how hard it hits.
There must have been such intensive research that has gone into this book as it felt so authentic all the way through. I couldn’t tell where the facts finished and the fiction began. That’s how skilfully woven this story was.
