It was my stop yesterday on the book tour for T.A Belshaw’s book Hopes And Fears. I am bring my review late and with apologies to both Zoe and Trevor. Thank you to ZooLoo’s Book Tours and Trevor Belshaw

FEATURING AMY ROWLINGS!

Christmas 1940. Despite the rationing and the Blackout, excitement at Mollison Farm is building as Alice and her workforce prepare for the annual Christmas Eve party. The snow has arrived, bang on time.

And this year, Alice has a big secret.

She has invited her evacuee children’s mother to spend a few precious days with her kids at Christmas, but disaster strikes and Alice is given the shock news that Rose’s home is now nothing more than a pile of bricks and the woman herself is missing, lost in the Blitz.

Amy, Alice’s best friend is despatched to the capital in a race against time, to find Rose and if possible, get her out of London.

As the search intensifies and the bombs start to fall again, Amy meets Rose’s sleazy husband Terry, a draft dodger, and Kevin, the ARP man with something to hide.

Meanwhile, on the farm, Stephen and Harriet discover the truth about their mother’s disappearance and Alice finds herself having to deal with the consequences.

The snow will fall and the farmyard carols will be sung, but will it be a happy Christmas on Mollison Farm?

I have read every single book written by T.A Belshaw and every book is excellent. Hopes And Fears is another book from the Unspoken series: An Unspoken Christmas Story. I knew I would be glued to my kindle. Trevor Belshaw’s writing does this to me.

Transported to 1940, Christmas and the farm with Alice and her daughter Martha. She has two evacuee children living with them. A brother and sister, Stephen and Harriet. As she runs the farm and lives life the best they can, she discovers that Stephen and Harriets mother, Rose, has been bombed out and she is missing.

Amy goes to London to attempt to find Rose and get her back to the farm if possible. Will she be able to and will Christmas be a happy one on the farm this year?

I never realised how much I missed Amy and Alice until I started reading. It felt like I was back with my friends. Trevor Belshaw has a skill in creating characters that are so well fleshed out they feel like real people. I have felt this from his first Unspoken book.

In Hopes And Fears he recreates life in 1940 so vividly. The research is clear with the minute details and the authenticity of the writing. The mystery and intrigue builds as the story progresses. This kept me turning the pages too. This author never fails to create original and interesting stories that are guaranteed to grip any historical fiction lover.

This is a series I hope he continues with. I hope I’m sat here writing a review for book ten in a few years. I don’t think I could ever get bored with the antics of Amy, Alice and everyone. They are that entertaining to read about.

All in all another superb chapter in the Unspoken series. Looking forward to next one!
