My first book by Simon Maltman. The blurb really drew me in and made me want to read it. Set in New York, 1987 we have Rory, who has left his life in war torn Belfast behind after his girlfriend’s death in a bombing.

He is a career criminal who, with his friends, Dave, Jimmy and Alice is planning a heist that’s going to give them a big payout. Alice disappears and Rory is worried that she’s been taken by the serial killer who leavesplaques on benches in Central Park. The police are that disinterested and won’t even admit there is a serial killer on the loose. Rory takes it upon himself to investigate Alice’s disappearance.
I am so glad I chose to read this book. It’s introduced me to yet another author who will be added to my ever-growing list of tbr authors.
A skilfully written thriller that has a little of everything to make it an interesting tale. It held my attention until the end. It isn’t just a serial killer story we also have the heist ongoing and then Simon Maltman has managed to bring some wry humour throughout to lighten it all.
I thought the inclusion of the music of the time was fun too. I actually listened to some of the music Simon Maltman mentioned. It’s a highly entertaining read that’s not your run of the mill thriller and one that deserves to be read and appreciated.
