Anita Waller has written many books, which I have read. This particular book, as I found, is a truly different story than I am used too from her. A very dark and disturbing read in some ways, with plenty of triggers for those of you who need to be aware. I am lucky, I don’t have any really.
Janette lives alone and boards dogs. A man knocks on to request to view her dog kennels, with a view to boarding his dog. He knocks her out and when she comes back round he is raping her. She hits him with the nearest thing she can find. He dies, she hides the body and pretends it never happened. Then she discovers she is pregnant and now it’s a different story…
Janette is a woman who can’t be classed as normal. Her behaviour as the story unfolds is pretty disturbing and dark. The way she treats her Child in both mental and physical ways, doesn’t make for nice reading. Anita Waller has written a story that has multiple story threads which all interweave to create one multi layered, dark and intense book.
I have always thought Anita Waller could spin a good tale but this book takes her storytelling up a notch. It may be a dark, intense and twisted story but it has the power to leave you thinking for a long time after you have finished it. A great contemporary psychological thriller that everyone needs to read.
