This will be a party to remember. For all the wrong reasons.
Ruth loves her life in London – she has a high-powered career and a handsome and
successful fiancé. This Christmas she’s bringing him back to her home town to meet her family and school friends, one of whom, Holly Murphy, has a new baby.
But, as the Christmas Eve party is in full swing, the unthinkable happens – Ruth
drops the baby, injuring the little boy.
Or did she?
Ruth becomes convinced she didn’t cause the baby’s injuries, that they were
inflicted before the party, that the Murphys are not the lovely family they appear to
be.
Determined to discover what really happened to the child, Ruth digs for the truth.
And won’t stop even when she’s shunned by her old friends, alienated from her
fiancé, and sacked from her dream job.
But are her suspicions justified? Or is she in the grip of a deadly obsession that
threatens to utterly destroy her perfect life?
Before I say anything about this book, just know I love Inkubator Books! They haven’t published a bad book as far as I know. So, as you can imagine, I received the copy of The Party and expected nothing but pure enjoyment. High expectations I know!
This is the second book by Nora Valters that I have read and it didn’t let down..at ALL! a psychological thriller which has all the ingredients to make it one I read in one go. I just couldn’t leave this book alone.
Ruth has everything she needs, a high powered job, a Fiancé who is everything to her. They go home for Christmas and Ruth is so excited for him to meet everyone, especially Holly, her best friend who has a baby boy.
They go to a Christmas party and everything falls apart after Ruth drops the baby Dylan causing injuries. But she is not totally sure that she actually caused his injuries or they could have been present before the party, so she decides to do some digging for the truth. As everything around her crumbles she doggedly continues…but what is the truth?
I was obsessed reading this. Nora Valter has outdone herself, in my eyes anyway. Her characters, which I must say aren’t all likeable. I wasn’t overly sure of Ruth either, but her determination to clear her own name on the eyes of everyone made me sympathetic to her plight. Every one seemed to be giving some secret or other and that increased my curiosity in seeing what would unfold.
A fast paced psychological thriller that was packed with tension and suspense. With a plot that definitely gripped me from start to finish. The twists had me on the edge of my seat with characters that were believable and relatable. Yet another amazing book by Nora Valters!

Nora Valters grew up in the New Forest in the south of England and has lived in
London, Manchester, Bournemouth, Oxford and Dubai.
She studied English Literature and Language at Oxford Brookes University before embarking on a career in marketing and copywriting.
Her debut psychological thriller, Her Biggest Fan, was published in October 2020
Her second novel, Now You Know, came out in June 2021. She’s currently writing her third, which will be out soon.
Nora loves to travel and has journeyed around the world. She enjoys exploring new places, painting, hiking, and is an avid reader. She’s also a bit obsessed with dogs…
