I’m pretty happy to say I have Murder In The Gallowgate by Daniel Sellers on the blog. Thanks to BooksNAll Promotions and Joffe Books for the ARC.
MEET LOLA HARRIS, GLASGOW’S HOTTEST NEW DETECTIVE.
Detective Lola Harris returns from a miserable singleton’s holiday — an effort to get over an ex — only to find herself in charge of a high-stakes investigation.
One of Glasgow’s most influential movers and shakers has vanished without trace. Police have found a blood-soaked crime scene, but no body . . .
The body count is rising. A merciless serial killer is on the loose.
Lola uncovers a trail that leads back into the past, to a mysterious death on a remote island. It is on the island that she will find the key to an obsessive plan for revenge — one with murder at its heart.
Can she catch the killer before they strike again?
Fans of Matt Brolly, Nadine Matheson, Alex Gray, Ian Rankin, Caro Ramsay and Denise Mina will devour this page-turning crime thriller.
MEET THE DETECTIVE
Lola, a former hairdresser, has an uncanny ability to get people to trust her at their most vulnerable. She can read people just from their appearance, and to ask questions that get to the heart of the matter. If only she could avoid obnoxious Detective Sergeant Pierce, who seems hell-bent on sabotaging the case — and her career with it.

This is my first book by Daniel Sellers, so wasn’t sure what to expect. All I can say is I went in with an open mind and no expectations.
What I found was a great read with detailed settings and characters that I felt could have been real. This is the first book in the Detective Lola Harris mysteries. Immediately I loved Lola’s name. I just thought it was a fab name for a detective, one I don’t usually come across. I was dying to get to know her as I started reading.
Set in Glasgow, Scotland primarily, although a sub plot takes the reader to somewhere else in Scotland also. I will let you read the book to discover the details. There are two threads to the story, two murders from the present day linked to an event in the past that are both delved into differently. Again I’m not big on spoilers so that’s all you get!
This was a book that transported me to Glasgow. A gritty city that I could picture in my minds eye from the vivid writing of Daniel Sellers. Lola was a character that I really did like. She was well fleshed out and I could relate to her so much. In fact all Daniel Sellers characters are very well created. This is quite a character driven story and the quality of the characters made this an intriguing and gripping read.
A crime fiction story with twists, turns and enough red herrings to have me thinking I had it all worked out, until I found out I hadn’t, at all. A fantastic start to a new series. I looking forward to returning to Detective Lola Harris, and the sooner, the better!
Author Bio

Daniel Sellers grew up in Yorkshire. He has lived and worked in Liverpool, Glasgow, Dublin, and Vaasa in Finland. He now lives in Argyll with his partner and a wheaten terrier called Rasmus.
Daniel loves crime fiction, old and new, particularly the work of Margaret Murphy, Mo Hayder, Ruth Rendell, P D James and Josephine Tey. He is a huge (if not obsessive!) fan of Agatha Christie, collecting first editions and managing the “For the Love of Agatha” Twitter fan account (@FortheLoveofAg1).
Daniel’s detective thrillers are pacy and dark, with as much interest in whydunnit as who.
