Again, I start with apologies. My stop on The tour should have been yesterday’s but due to certain activities I was unable to post. I am thrilled though, to be bringing my review as part of the book tour for A Friend Of The Family by Stuart Field. Thanks to Donna Morfett for my invite and Stuart Field for the copy of the book.

Families are dying. No matter how hard DCI Platt tries, he’s not seeing a pattern; not even after his own wife and daughter are targeted.
Young Melanie has forgotten what life outside Larksford House was like. She’s been in for so long. But when Toby joins the team, she starts to remember. She really shouldn’t be there. Professor Hicks is delighted that Toby has made the breakthrough for him. It might actually allow Hicks to improve his own fortunes.
Bill Brown sells security; his business improves with every strike of the family killer. As fear in the community grows, Bill’s ability to gain a stranger’s trust comes to the fore. But what is he hiding?
As the clock ticks, can Platt get closer to the killer, and will Melanie remember the truth?

Usually I am used to reviewing Stuart Fields John Steel books. Today its the beginning of a new series with A Friend Of The Family. I am so used to action thrillers by Stuart I didn’t know what to expect with this book.
What I found was a great read. A murder mystery in which we meet Melanie, a young woman who had been living in Larksford House for 10 years. She was sent there after she appeared to threaten her parents and twin sister. A new psychiatric nurse begins work at Larksford House and seems to connect with Melanie. Beginning to question the reasoning behind why she is there. Professor Hicks is the person in charge of Melanie’s care and the boss, but are his motives pure or greed?
The police are, at the same time are investigating a series of family Killings where it’s always the mother and daughter that are murdered. The only link they can find is they are always blonde. DCI Platt, is running the investigation and it seems that his own wife and daughter were victims of the same killer.
This is quite a complex and multi layered murder mystery in which bodies keep dropping as the story unfolds. A clever and twisting read that kept me turning the pages just to see if I could guess anything right. I will say that A Friend Of The Family ends leaving unanswered questions and the cliff hanger that left me needing the next book, now.
