I am so thrilled to have been invited along on the blog tour for Nobody But Us by Laure Van Rensburg. Thanks to Sriya for the invite and the copy of this brilliant book to bring my review.

He’s a well-respected college professor. She’s a young and eager-to-please student.
He knows she would do anything for him. She knows his certainty is his weakness
He thinks he’ll get what he wants. She thinks he’ll get exactly what he needs.
Two liars.
One twisted path.
A game of cat and mouse.
BUT WHO IS THE HUNTER? AND WHO IS THE PREY?

A debut psychological thriller that is intense, dark, claustrophobic and oh so much of an obsessive read. I had heard a lot about this book on the run up to it being published for me to be very excited about reading it.
Stephen and Ellie are on their way to a secluded cabin for the Easter weekend. The plan is a special weekend but things become far darker than that as the weekend unfolds.
Told from both characters perspectives in alternating chapters. This helps the reader get to know Stephen and Ellie and understand their motivations. I thought that Laure Van Rensburg has done a fabulous job bringing the house they stay in to life. It is almost a third character in its own right. This alone made me feel so claustrophobic, creating a pressure cooker feel to the story.
Written in present day and the past in the form of flashbacks, the author skillfully weaves a chilling tale. Her vivid descriptions of the house, surroundings and even the weather gave me an even larger sense of foreboding as to where this book would go.
I was seriously glued to the book from page one and as everything played out I almost felt like I could be watching a film. One which I hide behind a cushion most of the time! Such a well-written psychological thriller with menace oozing out of the pages from the start that only builds and builds. I am really looking forward to Laure Van Rensburg’s next book.
