I’m so happy to be part of the blog tour for Spruced Up For Murder by Helen Golden on behalf of Rachel’s Random Resources. Thanks to Rachel Gilbey and Helen Golden for my place on the tour and the ARC of the book.

Death at Francis Court Now Confirmed as Murder!

Speculation is rife that the victim, estate manager Alex Sterling (44), was found by Lady Beatrice (35), the Countess of Rossex, niece of King James. Lady Beatrice, who has finally come out of hiding following her son’s departure to boarding school, has been managing the project to refurbish and redesign the Events Suite at Francis Court, alongside Perry Juke.

Heading up the murder investigation is Detective Chief Inspector Richard Fitzwilliam. Rumour has it that he and Lady Beatrice have a fractious history…

Awful man! How dare Fitzwilliam suggest Lady Beatrice’s sister is the number one suspect for Alex’s murder. It could be any one of the staff who were on-site that morning. Well, she’ll show Mr High and Mighty Fitzwilliam! With her attention to detail, her clever dog Daisy, Perry’s imagination, and his partner’s contacts at Fenshire CID, they’ll find the murderer before him.

Unless the murderer finds her first…

Helen Golden’s debut cosy mystery that has a blurb which immediately catches your attention and a cover that I felt matched the book after I had finished it. Not knowing what to expect I just went in with an open mind.

Set around the Royal family…not exactly the real one but you can see the similarities. We meet Lady Beatrice or Bea, the Kings niece. Her 14 year old son has gone to boarding school and she is lined up to refurbish and redesign an Events Suite with Perry Duke. They discover the Estate Managers dead body. The D.C.I in charge of the murder investigation Richard Fitzwilliam, knows Lady Bea from when her husband died and, they ain’t the best of friends.
This is a really quirky and funny story. Every character is off the wall in some way and I thought the world building worked well to make it feel realistic. Helen Golden has wrapped this clever mystery up in humour and I am partial to this type of book.

She doesn’t just write a straight up story, she integrates texts and social media into it as well, which gave it a modern day feel. I mean everyone’s on social media and texting these days. This just added to the book.

Spruced Up For Murder has characters you can easily connect with, a plot that’s pretty twisty, intriguing and funny too and a setting that takes you there. What else does one need in a book? Oh, yes and it’s well- written too! My last box to tick. I shall be keeping my eye out for more of Helen Golden’s work in the future.

Helen Golden

Hello. I’m Helen Golden. I write British contemporary cozy whodunnits with a hint of humour. I live in small village in Lincolnshire in the UK with my husband, my step-daughter, her two cats, our two dogs, sometimes my step-son, and our tortoise.

I used to work in senior management, but after my recent job came to a natural end I had the opportunity to follow my dreams and start writing. It’s very early in my life as an author, but so far I’m loving it.

It’s crazy busy at our house, so when I’m writing I retreat to our caravan (an impulsive lockdown purchase) which is mostly parked on our drive. When I really need total peace and quiet, I take it to a lovely site about 15 minutes away and hide there until my family runs out of food or clean clothes
