Michael L. Lewis – The Silent Oath @rararesources @BookGuild #TheSilentOath #SharonBTB

Today I’m so happy to say it’s my blog stop on The Silent Oath by Michael L. Lewis nlog tour. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Michael L. Lewis for the copy of the book.

The Silent Oath is the fourth in The Oath series that depicts life at Blackleigh Public School, and also serves as a stand-alone novel.

1958. Jonathan Simon, 17, is in his fourth year at Blackleigh. Self-conscious about his appointment as one of five Prefects in Trafalgar House, he’s apprehensive as to whether he has what it takes to carry out his responsibilities.

Jonathan knows: 1) The school code of conduct mandates no snitching on anyone. 2) The student Prefects have absolute power to discipline. 3) Mr. Phillip Temple the new Headmaster is determined to revise the school admission policy to achieve a more even playing field in education.

The pressure mounts in an unforgettable school trip to Paris, prejudice spreading through the school and to the school’s Board of Governors as they ruthlessly oppose the new Head. They will stop at nothing to get their way. In his effort to strive to support the Headmaster’s goals, Jonathan will have to overcome far more than an oath of silence executed by his enemies to prevail…

The fourth book in this series and I wondered how Jonathan was faring. As much as this is a school that has teachers who seem to walk around blind to the evil goings on, I was quite interested to catch up with everything.

This book sees Jonathan a prefect and there is a new headmaster for the school who has a plan to make it more radical, and there are girls attending now too. As always with Blackleigh there is a nasty bunch of kids who are out to thwart the plans, as well as getting Jonathan out of the way. Their evilness just doesn’t stop, not even when one boy takes his own life. As always Jonathan and his friends, who now have a girl onboard too called Jenny, just won’t put up with it.

This is the worst, most violent school I have ever read about. The bullying is, and always has been, relentless. The teachers seem to not take any notice whatsoever. After three books I had hoped I would see some improvement in it, no such luck.

The Silent Oath is another fantastic read that, again shows how much friendship, loyalty and bravery matters when the going gets tough. This is a school that is more than tough every single day. I did take great pleasure in the fact that Hunter (not the nicest child in the school) paid the price for his evilness. I almost revelled in it!

Unique characters that either pull at your heart strings or make you want to almost hate them, are so skilfully described by Michael L. Lewis. Their vividness brings the story to life as you read the book.

I always find this series so absorbing. Not one thats all sweetness and light, due to the bullying and the nastiness running through this school and a lot of the kids too. They are books that keep you reading with a well paced story that has its twists and turns to make you want to know what’s next for Jonathan and his friends. Yet another Michael L. Lewis book I definitely recommend.
