I must say I have reviewed this book on Instagram previously but I have now not just reposted my original review but extended it too.
This is a raw, emotional, touching and very moving novel. S.R.Fabrico’s debut is a book that touched me. Not just because the character is called Laura, and my eldest daughter is too, but the strength that is woven through this book.
I did have to ground myself several times as I joined Laura Shirk on her journey. There are aspects of this heartbreaking book that are so close to events in my children’s pasts. This was almost cathartic to read for me. I touched parts of myself that I have walled up for 8 years.
A story that is highly relevant in these modern days and the author has bravely put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard!) to bring light to a subject that is so easily buried. It’s a well-written book with a character in Laura that I immediately connected to. A realistic and very lifelike character who brings the book alive within the pages.
The Secrets We Conceal is a highly emotive story that is one I wanted to hide from but, omg, I couldn’t stop reading. It’s raw and doesn’t shield anyone from the bitter, heartbreaking truth. Saying all this as I know personally, having an abusive childhood doesn’t always mean you end up off the rails. It shows there are also ways through the trauma and there can be light at the end of the tunnel too.

Author Bio
S.R. Fabrico is a six-time award-winning author born and raised a Yankee who loves NY-style pizza and Philly cheesesteaks. She was introduced to the amazing world of Southern BBQ after moving to Tennessee where she lives with her husband and two children. She considers her family her main priority, everything she does is for them. She attended college in the ’90s and received her degree in mathematics with a minor in secondary education, she went on to coach cheerleading and dance for 20 years winning a World Championship. She loves anything and everything creative, so writing has always been a hobby. When she isn’t writing, she likes to wife hard, mom hard, paint, read good books and watch good movies.
Writing THE SECRETS WE CONCEAL has been an incredible journey. Writing through paramount sadness recalling moments from the past was challenging, but also immensely gratifying. I am who I am today partly because of my life’s experiences, all of them. I believe a glass half full mentality is what keeps me going, I make a personal choice to find the good in all things each day and appreciate the gifts that each person in my life has to offer.
