Hilary Green – Operation Lightning Bolt @Booksnall2020 @JoffeBooks #OperationLightningBolt #JoffeBooks #BookTour #SharonBTB

I’m so pleased to bring you my blog tour stop for Operation Lightning Bolt by Hilary Green. Thanks to Jill Burkinshaw and Joffe Books for my invitation and the ARC copy of the book to take part today.

A British secret agent must face her greatest nightmare to unravel a dangerous mystery — if she is to save her country from its worst enemies.

Hampshire, 1943.

Kim Maxwell has been languishing in the ‘cooler’ in what she sees as punishment for getting caught — and tortured — by the Nazis, before being freed by Resistance fighters and smuggled back into England. Now she is sent for by the head of SOE. This is her chance to prove herself.

A fellow agent has been found murdered. It would seem that Lilian Harvey heard something she shouldn’t have and that her murder was a warning. Setting out to uncover the culprit, Kim spots a strange zigzag pattern on the wall above the bed where the body was found, which Lilian drew using her own blood as she lay dying.

Before Kim knows it, she uncovers evidence that there exists a dark society working in the shadows and she realizes the Nazis are not England’s only enemy.

When she meets the mysterious yet captivating Roland, aka Red Fox, they embark on a mission to solve the murder — all the while being drawn to each other and further into trouble.

But in order to expose this dangerous web of deceit, Kim must go back into the heart of occupied France — and into the hands of the enemy.

I have read Hilary Greens’ books before and thoroughly enjoyed them. She certainly knows how to weave a good story. Operation Lightning Bolt drew my attention immediately. I have always been a history geek and this book definitely made me want to read it.

Set during the Second World War with a female main character, Kim Maxwell. A woman who had already been caught and tortured by the nazi’s then rescued by the resistance and smuggled back to England.
She finds herself in a position to redeem herself but starts to discover its not just the nazis that are plotting against England.

A historical fiction story that plunges the reader into the drama, danger and action from that time. Hilary Green has woven a tale that shows us the work that the SOE and codebreakers did during this dangerous time. I found it interesting as well as educational to read about. I always say a good book should entertain and educate, Operation Lightning Bolt certainly did this.

This is a book that is full of colourful and strong characters. Kim herself is so well drawn that I immediately connected with her. A woman who knows the job needs doing and is strong enough to take the risks needed to do that. The way its been written I felt like I was by her side all the way. This made it such an immersive read for me.

Operation Lightning Bolt kept me turning the pages as I was so interested in what was going to happen next. I read this book in two sittings as I had to attend to my real world issues!

This isn’t just a historical story, it also has a dash of romance in it too. If you enjoy a story full of intrigue and history with a little lightness too, try this, you may just be surprised. A highly recommended read from me.
