It’s my absolute pleasure to bring you my review for the blog tour of Once A Killer by Murray Bailey. Massive thanks to Murray Bailey for actually inviting me to take part and the copy of his book.
He changed his identity.
He moved to Hong Kong.
He changed his life.
But can he change who he really is?
Charles Balcombe, sophisticated, risk-taking lothario was a special investigator. He thinks that taking a PI job to find a missing boy will distract him from his killer instinct. But once a killer…

A new series from Murray Bailey is reason enough to shout ‘yay!’ I do so enjoy this author’s books and when I edited there was a new series I was dying to read it.
This series features Blackjack, the infamous villain from the Ash Carter series, or Charles
Balcombe, as he is calling himself now. In Hong Kong, now getting his thrills from casinos, the wives of rich bankers, parties and races, but as they say…once a killer.
Wow! I loved this book! It grabbed me straight away. Charles Balcombe himself is an intriguing character. He is such a chaotic mix of everything, from glimpses of kindness to his brutality as a killer. An enigmatic man who I weirdly found myself getting right behind as the story developed.
Then there is Detective Munro whose story is told alongside Charles’s. Tasked with a case that’s far from normal, we see everything unfold for both men at the same time. This creates such a gripping, twisty and tense read!
The setting of Hong Kong was so well depicted. Murray Bailey is highly skilled at being able to transport the reader to his settings, I always find this with whatever book I read of his, he never fails. His characters are all well rounded and in Once A Killer, he has superbly fleshed out Charles Balcombe, to make him as enigmatic as he has.
Another book I highly recommend from Murray Bailey and another series I can’t wait to carry on reading!
