Having read Karmen Špiljak’s work before, I was quite eager to read this book. I did hope this book would be as good as her other book. Well,happy to report, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
The first book in a new mystery thriller series. We are introduced to Toni Morretti,a character with a dark past. Toni herself was very interesting to get to know. She has faked her own death to escape her own mobster family. Now living Mexico City she discovers, its not going to be an easy ride.
I love a good mob story, and Toni being from a mob family added intrigue for me. Her back story just made her seem much more human and I could easily see her point of view. I found her training so fascinating too. I can’t wait to see how Karmen Špiljak develops her as this series expands. I am curious as to how she changes throughout the next book too.
No Such Thing As Goodbye is an entertaining and well written book. In which the author has managed to pace perfectly to match the story. It doesn’t run away with you and its not a slow burn tale either. There is action all the way through, and enough to make the reader keep flipping the pages in anticipation.
This is a great start to a series and I’m looking forward to catching up with Toni in the next book. If you enjoy mystery, and suspense thrillers, pick up this book, give it a go.

Karmen Špiljak is a Slovenian-Belgian writer of suspense, horror and speculative fiction.
Her short fiction has been awarded and anthologised. Her thriller, ‘No Such Thing as Goodbye’, was shortlisted and received an honourable mention at ‘The Black Spring Crime Fiction Prize 2020’.
She lives in Sao Paulo with her husband, two mischievous cats and an undefined number of literary characters.
