Lis McDermott – He Is Not Worthy @lismcdermott @SilverWoodBooks @RandomTTours #HeIsNotWorthy #RandomThingsTours #SharonBTB

I am on the blog tour for He Is Not Worthy by Lis McDermott on behalf of Random Things Tours. Thanks to both Anne Cater and Silverwood Books for my copy of the book.

Rhi Dobbs is head of the art department in a secondary school in Whittingbury, a small town on the south west coast of England. She has her dream job and lives in her own idyllic cottage by the sea with her cat Tibbs. Her life is more than she could ever hope for.

Ben Brooks is a loner who cares for his mum, who always makes him feel worthless. He is obsessed with a red-headed girl who he met several years ago, just once, on what was the worst day of his life. He lives his life vicariously through hers, until she does the unspeakable…

Tragic events and an inappropriate love affair mean that both of their lives will be changed forever.

This blurb hooked me straight away. This is a debut novel and I love discovering new writers. The good thing about a new author is I don’t expect anything, so I go in with a real open mind.

Told from multiple perspectives which is great to get to know all the characters and what’s really happening too. This story even gives us different views of one scene. This allows the reader to really get into the nitty gritty of this story,so it isn’t a one sided view . I thought this was such a good way to bring a whole picture.

Lis McDemotts characters are well fleshed out and detailed with enough background to make them feel authentic. Rhi herself is an independant and strong woman who is experiencing so much throughout this novel and has done for some time. Even with this she still attempts to follow her heart. I like Rhi, she was someone I could empathise with so much. Her love for her cat just topped it off.

Ben, well, he is a character I wanted to hate.. and I should, but the way Lis McDermott has given the reader a view into his personality shows his vulnerability and they can even see what may be reasons for his actions. This does bring another level to the story too.

The twists and turns of the story along with well made characters kept me saying ‘just one more chapter’, that carried on until I actually fell asleep! A well researched book that kept me gripped with a perfect conclusion too. I will be keeping an eye out for Lis McDermott’s next offering.
