Rebecca Frost – Not Your Mary Sue @RandomTTours @krakengoddess @AestheticPress1 #NotYourMarySue #SharonBTB

I’m happy to say I am part of Not Your Mary Sue by Rebecca Frost on behalf of Random Things Tours. Thanks to both Anne Cater and Aesthetic Press for my copy of the book.

A not so classic girl meets boy story begins when a televangelist’s adult daughter, Marcy, journeys to a secluded island resort where she awakens a captive of a handsome, charming, notorious serial killer who requests she pen his autobiography explaining all of his intentions and crimes in detail. She finds herself horrified that she is intrigued by him and maybe even…infatuated by him. He has more control than she realizes as he slowly begins to brainwash her just as the autobiography is completed. Once she is rescued and he is arrested, Marcy begins to pull her life back together only for her captor to escape and her brother becomes a new suspect in a murder.

Author Rebecca Frost is a True Crime author. This is her first fiction novel.

A serial Killer tale with a difference, is how I describe this book. A psychological thriller that immediately plunged me into Marcy’s world. A young woman who finds herself in a situation that she could never have imagined.

This story is told by Marcy, from her view. This made her emotions almost palpable for me. It made the book so real and in turn quite intense. Her mother died and her father sent her to live on a secluded island, for the summer. She isn’t in a great state of mind and finds herself alone with a serial killer,Jay, who wants her to tell his story with nothing left out and keeps her captive.

Marcy wonders how she can find any redeeming feature in this man. He is determined to save her from her own suicidal thoughts. Why? When he has killed so many other people? She finds him charming and even good looking. These thoughts lead to so much confusion for her. As he continues to assault her with his horrific stories, she doesn’t realise he is manipulating her in a sly way.

Marcy has had a strange life and being placed in this situation just makes her question everything. She has been controlled all her life by men. She arrives on the island with a determination to die and is stopped, again, by a man. Taken prisoner and told what to do by a monster who also gives her the will to keep on living. Her confusion is all consuming, as she attempts to deal with Jay and question all she knows at the same time. Once rescued she begins to rebuild her life, until Jay escapes prison and all her safety is shot to pieces.

This book just serves to remind me that, they may be killers, but they are human too. A story that held me fast while reading. So many emotions sucker punched me throughout. Such an intense experience that kept me reading until I really had to make food or my son would have not been happy.

If you enjoy intense thrillers you should pick this up. It’s a reading experience I won’t forget in a hurry.
