Mary Grand – Good Neighbours @rararesources @BoldwoodBooks @authormaryg #GoodNeighbours #rararesources #boldwoodbooks #SharonBTB

Today, rather late, but I am posting my review for Good Neighbours by Mary Grand. Thanks again to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for my copy of the book to take part today.

It was meant to be a safe place to start again…

In need of an escape from her failing marriage, Nia agrees to house-sit her aunt’s cottage on the Isle of Wight. She feels sure the cosy close in a quaint harbour town will be a safe place to hide and figure out what to do next.

But things are not all as they seem in the close, and the neighbours who welcome her with open arms, are keeping secrets. When Nia finds the body of one of her new friends lying on the beach, she feels sickeningly sure that the killer is dangerously near to home.

Who killed her friend and why did she have to die? And if Nia discovers the answers she’s looking for, is she next on their hit list?

Good neighbours may become good friends, but they can also make deadly enemies…

Mary Grand always delivers an intricate psychological mystery. No matter which book I read, I always come away thoroughly satisfied with the book. I was really happy to be asked to read and review this new release. I knew I was in for an enjoyable and interesting book and was looking forward to start reading.

Good Neighbours is a mystery set on the Isle of Wight. Nia has fled her everyday life and failing marriage to house sit her Aunts cottage on the island. She just wants to feel safe and the Isle of Wight seems the perfect answer. She settles in begins to make friends. The day comes that she discovers a body on the beach of Ruby, one of her new friends. Why was she killed and who by? Nia feels the murderer is too close for comfort and she is determined to find answers, but will she live to find them?

Nia is a great main character, I was invested immediately in her life before the island as well as on the island. I really wasn’t keen on Chris, her husband, so felt she made a good decision leaving, but that’s my opinion. She gets herself into trouble with her Detective work. Are her neighbours on the island what they seem to be? Or are they hiding things?

Such a well written, slow burn of a psychological mystery thriller. The Isle of Wight itself added so much atmosphere to the story and felt so authentic. I found myself turning the pages so quick as I was so eager to discover who had killed Ruby and why. Mary Grand always writes a story so skilfully that I can’t stop reading. As always there are such well crafted characters who add so much to this mystery.

Even though its not such a fast paced book, there are plenty of twists, turns and red herrings that kept me guessing. This type of book is always such an intriguing read for me, I love being held in a state of suspense, it makes for such a great reading experience. Mary Grand is an author that consistently keeps me immersed in her books and I look forward to the next one! Highly recommended read.
