Jim McGhee – The Major Minor Murders @ZooloosBT @bigbarneymains #themajorminormurders #DIBarneyMains #zooloosbooktours #SharonBTB

I’m so thrilled to say I am part of The Major Minor Murders book tour today. Thanks to Zoé and Jim McGhee for my place and the copy of the book to take part.

There’s been a murder. And the only suspect has vanished.

Even his own brother, DI Barney Mains, thinks he’s guilty.

But when the missing man’s teenage daughter begs Barney to help, he has no choice.

And before long he starts to question whether the criminal brother he hasn’t seen for ten years could actually be innocent this time.

It’s just that everyone seems to be in an all-fired hurry to pin the killing on him.
Despite there being a pair of highly visible alternative candidates – a tall ex-army type and a sidekick built like a tank.

The trail leads Barney to the South of France and the gated world of the super-rich.

For only there will he discover whether his brother is a killer on the run.
Or the next victim…

The Major Minor Murders by Jim McGhee is my first introduction to Jim McGhee’s writing. I am also jumping into a series mid way through, so I am so happy to say I have found another author that I enjoy.

This is the second book in the DI Barney Mains Series. DI Barney Mains, has left his job with Police Scotland and is finally fulfilling his wish to paint in Nice. He is  settled and enjoying his peace. Then his niece asks for help from him. His estranged brother who he hasn’t seen for 10 years is being framed for a murder he didn’t commit. There is also a possibility he might be dead too. Mains and his friends all attempt to get to the bottom of this mystery. As they dig they uncover more murders, corruption and fraud along the way.

Even though I have missed the first book, I had no confusion with the characters or keeping up with the plot. I can see that if I had read the first book, I would understand more about motivations and backgrounds. That’s always great to know, but it wasn’t detrimental to my experience of this book.

The settings of France and Scotland were described so well that it made for a more atmospheric read. The characters were ones I found pretty interesting and loved getting to know Barney, Ffiona, Shona and French police officer Jean Luc. I will really have to read book one, just so I can see how much these characters have developed since book one.

As the story unfolds the pace starts to speed up. The plot twists and the secrets are revealed with perfect timing, which keeps the reader turning the pages and even on the edge of their seat! A gem of a series, as I discovered, highly recommended reading.

Author Bio

Jim McGhee

Jim McGhee’s a former award-winning environmental journalist.
Based in East Lothian, near Edinburgh, Scotland, he spends much of each year (in normal times) in the South of France, the main setting for the DI Barney Mains series, with tolerant wife Jean and rampant Irish Terrier, Jack.
After a full-on career as a campaigning newspaper reporter, he and Jean launched their own recruitment company in central Edinburgh and for twelve fun-packed years worked closely together alongside their brilliant team – without spilling a single drop of blood.
The Alpes-Maritimes and Var departments, on the other hand, have provided a host of dramatic locations just perfect as inspiration for the odd spot of fictional gore.
Locals, blessed with scenery ranging from unspoiled mountain villages to the classic palms-and-marinas coast, claim that they can be swimming one moment and skiing a little over an hour later.
Though when not writing or travelling en famille, Jim’s more likely to be off on a hike in the hills with his ever-ready buddy, Jack.
