I am so proud to say I am part of the blog tour for an amazing book You Only Live Thrice by Karl Perry. Massive thanks to Random Things Tours and Karl Perry for the copy of the book to bring you my honest thoughts today.
Sometimes, the Universe goes out of its way, to invite the opportunity of not just a second, but a third incarnation of life. You Only Live Thrice is a sometimes comic, but brutally honest account of surviving cardiac arrest at home, embracing the chance for a second life, struggling to get balance in that second life, only to be forced to close a well-established event business, due to Covid-19.You’ll be taken on the rollercoaster journey of diagnosis, resuscitation and recovery, to considering parallel Universes, the administration processes of an afterlife, how to survive experimentation by oversized insects, dealing with a parent’s death and managing the mixed emotions attached to a business closure.Ultimately, learning to appreciate that not knowing what to do next, can be a wonderful opportunity.
Uplifting, frank and irreverent, this isn’t a self-help book. But in testing times, it can help to realise that your own perspective on life, is sometimes your greatest Superpower.

A warts and all memoir of surviving a cardiac arrest. This was a book that I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t sure if I would truly enjoy it or if I would be too emotional while reading it.
I sat down and planned to read a few pages initially, it turned out to be two hours later and quite a few more pages than I planned. Karl and his family went through a horrific time and he doesn’t put any fancy frills on it here. The determination and bravery just pours out of the pages as they do their best to deal with their emotional wellbeing while getting through the medical side of everything too. It’s raw, brutally honest and he even finds humour and sarcasm to bring to the story!
One of the first things I noticed within the first few pages was his humour. He just dropped something about Manchester United football club in there. Well, that drew my attention immediately, I live a couple of miles away from Manchester and our house is a Man City house, so that just set me up. I always love an author who talks about places, anything I can relate to.
The fear, anxiety, helplessness and the confusion are all written with such honesty that it gets you, without a doubt. I was struck by the emotions Karl Perry has poured into these pages. The bravery of this man to live this and then relive it by writing this book is phenomenal. Not many people could do this as good at it has turned out.
This is a story that raised every emotion within me. I have laughed and I have cried all the way. This was a book that made me think about my mortality and how would I deal with a massive curveball such as Karl’s? It showed me that even though everyone is unique in their life’s, when it boils down to it, we are all human and the similarities are there…you just need to get past the layers.
An amazing book written by an amazing man. I will be forever thankful to have taken part in Karl Perry’s book journey.
