I’m so excited to say I am part of the Rachel’s Random Resources blog tour for The Secret Voices by MJ White. Thanks to Rachel and HeraBooks for the copy of the book.
They said they’d keep me safe.
They said, ‘It’s okay, Hannah. You know you can trust me.’
They lied.
When eight-year-old Hannah Perry goes missing in the small Suffolk village of St Just, the community is rocked. Heading up the investigation is Acting DS Rob Minshull, but he’s out of his depth in a case that seems to mirror the disappearance of a young boy, seven years ago. That search ended in unimaginable tragedy…and Minshull is praying that history won’t be repeated.
But with an investigation full of dead ends, and a kidnapper taunting the police with sinister deliveries of Hannah’s belongings and cryptic notes, the young girl’s life hangs perilously in danger.
Until Dr Cora Lael enters the picture. A psychologist with a unique ability, Cora’s rare gift allows her to sense emotions attached to discarded objects. When she is shown the first of Hannah’s belongings, she hears the child’s piercing scream.
With few leads on the case, could Cora prove Hannah’s only hope? And as time runs out, can they find Hannah before history repeats itself…?
A twisty, original and utterly gripping detective thriller that fans of James Oswald and LJ Ross will love. Don’t miss the crime thriller debut from the bestselling women’s fiction author, Miranda Dickinson.
,

A debut crime thriller by an author who is very well know for writing a completely different genre. I was really so intrigued to see if this one would tick all the boxes for me.
It’s definitely a compelling thriller, It had me hooked. A missing eight year girl from a small Suffolk village, an Acting DS who can’t shake the memories that this case brings to the surface. A Psychologist, Dr Cora Lael, with a unique ability…she can sense emotions that are attached to objects. Can Acting DS Rob Minshull together with Dr Cora Lael and the rest of the team find and save Hannah Perry, or is she doomed to have the same ending as Minshull’s previous case?
I always love police procedurals and rime thriller and this one brings everything that I love in spades! Dr Cora Lael brings a unique angle that makes this story stand out from the rest. MJ White has written Cora’s ability really well. It doesn’t seem over the top or unbelievable at any point. It has been done in such an intelligent way that I was so invested in Cora.
It is told from multiple perspectives which helps us to get to know everyone. I must say the characters are easy to keep up with. The plot us so well thought out and detailed, along with twists and turns in the story, placed perfectly to keep the reader engaged.
There are also chapters, only small ones from Hannah the 8 year old girl who is missing. These really ramp up the tension and bring you back to the seriousness of the investigation. I was putting everything into this little girl and her plight, hoping against hope that she would be saved in tim
A fantastic beginning to a new series that has introduced me to a set of characters that I am looking forward to seeing how they grow and develop as the books are published. I am really wanting the next book as soon as possible now. This is one author to watch out for, loved it.
