Alice Church- The Belles of Waterloo @RandomTTours @a_church_books @UnicornPubGroup #TheBellesOfWaterloo #RandomThingsTours #SharonBTB

I am part of the book tour for The Belles of Waterloo by Alice Church, on behalf of Random Things Tours. Thanks to Anne Cater and Unicorn Publishing Group for the copy of the book.

A romance inspired by real events… Maria, Georgy and Harriet navigate their first throes of passion, scandal, and love in the heady pre-war atmosphere of Brussels in 1815.

Little do they know they will soon be waltzing their way to the battle of the century at a small village called Waterloo.

As the fight for Europe rages outside the city walls, Maria seeks to find herself – will she also find a husband along the way?

I am always interested when I see a book that is based on historical events. The Belles of Waterloo was such a book. A cover that I loved and the blurb that made me want to read it.

A Regency romance that has captured the era it is set in beautifully. The family at the centre of The Belles of Waterloo, the Capels, are a prominent and very real family from the time. I found them to be entertaining and definitely lively lot. A family who are in debt to some tune, due to the head of the family. They move to Brussels from London. Hoping to start again, and marry their three eldest girls off. Harriet, Marie and Georgy Capel, are perfect in everyway, apart from being penniless, which may just hinder the process.

The way Alice Church drew me in to the three girls lives during 1815 in Waterloo brought them all to life. Everything about that time is captured so well, the scandal, passion and love all almost emanating of the pages. Little do they know that one of the most famous battles will be played out in the place they call home.

Historical accuracy is always an important part of a book that is based on real events, it was such an interesting read to discover more about the battle of Waterloo and how it affected the lives of the people who experienced it on the sidelines. I was enthralled with this book, totally. It’s such an atmospheric and vivid story that I couldn’t help but feel I was almost living this time. I enjoyed finding out how the people who lived through this were affected too. Alice Church’s research is so apparent, it makes for fascinating reading throughout.

I always say, I love being entertained as well as educated and Alice Church has done just that. I was swept up in the romance as Marie attempts to find herself and hopefully a husband at the same time. Each of the girls were so well developed as was their mother, Lady Caroline. This helped to make the Belles of Waterloo such a riveting book.

Alice Church has expertly crafted a compelling, historical romance novel that will delight anyone who loves history and romance together.
