T.J.Emerson – The Perfect Holiday @rararesources @TraceyJEmerson @BoldwoodBooks #ThePerfectHoliday

Today I am part of the blog tour for The Perfect Holiday by T.J Emerson. Thanks to both Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the copy of the book in order to take part.

Would you kill to be here?

Olivia and Julian are enjoying lazy days in their Spanish villa, a well deserved break from their busy lives. Especially for Julian, who after a lifetime as a carer was thrust into the public eye following the tragic murder of his first wife.

The languid heat and peace of the villa is broken only by clifftop walks, sun drenched lunches and cooling swims. Until a chance encounter with Gabriel – an attractive man, many years their junior – changes everything.

Soon their idyllic break turns into a dangerous, high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse.

Will any of them get out alive?

A psychological thriller that’s just up my street. T.J Emerson’s The Perfect Holiday  kept me up until I finished it! That’s how much I needed to know how it all turned out.

We meet Julian and Olivia, a married couple who are spending time together at their villa in Spain. Julian is a man who has spent a good portion of his life being a carer, first for his dad and then for his first wife. He is now re-married to Olivia,a rich woman who can give him everything. On their holiday they bump into Gabriel, a man from Julian’s past. Is Gabriel someone who could change everything, or not?

The story is told from two the present in Spain and from his memoirs, detailing his life as his first wife’s carer. Its a multi layered story that kept me hooked. I loved the setting of Mallorca, I enjoyed escaping from my own life and experiencing Spain for a while. The characters are perfect for this tale that starts as a sunny holiday and turns dark pretty quick.

Every page kept me guessing where this story was actually going. The cat and mouse game was on and I was reading as fast as I could. There are plenty of twists, turns and suspense which always turns I to an addictive type of read for me. It did make me think that some people do go to extremes to have what they want!

T.J Emerson has done a great job of highlighting the life of a carer. I feel like I  able to say that with conviction. I have been a carer for 19 years and believe me it isn’t all  sweetness and light. Whether this is from research or personal knowledge its been written well.

A thriller full of jealously, betrayal, suspense and greed that brings that impending sense of doom when you realise everything is spiraling out of control and somone needs to pay.
A book I would recommend of you love multi layered psychological thrillers.
