David J. Harrison – Recursion @ZooloosBT @Harrison55

Today I’m on the tour for Recursion for ZooLoo’s Book Tours. I am hosting an extract for this fabulous book. I am able to say it is fabulous as I have read it and reviewed previously. This extract will give you a taste of the book, enjoy!

Recursion Synopsis

Everything that is going to happen already has.
During a disruption in the timeline of a sleepy Lake District village, the erratic and strung-out artist Haruki Kensagi cannot help but feel that he’s been here before, either in his past or in his future.
Haruki, struggling with both his painting and his mental health, disappears.
His long-suffering wife Jane Kensagi, herself a brilliant musician, interrupts her career to look for him unaware that a malignant and ageless entity awaits them both under the dark fells of the Lake District.
The estranged couple becomes caught up in a dangerously recursive series of events surrounding a dormant cosmic force.
They encounter a cabal of enigmatic characters who may hinder or help in equal measure. And over all this madness, the monstrous but charismatic Captain presides; part faith healer, part cult-leader, all saviour.
Haruki and Jane are taken to the limits of sanity and beyond in their attempt to escape from the evil that has been unleashed.

Extract

‘We’ve given away your position, you know. Had to. We couldn’t wait. You should have called us.’

‘You’ve what? Why?’

‘Do I really need to say? You ran off mid-rehearsal, then we didn’t hear from you for months. You can’t be surprised that we took that as your resignation. I know you felt that you bit-off more than you could chew, but really Jane, I expected more from you.’

‘Months, did you say? What are you talking about? I’ve only been gone a day.’

‘I’m sorry Jane, this is really not a matter for me. Let me transfer you to…’

‘Just tell me one thing Sir John, who did you get to replace me?’

‘As it happened, we had a hell of a job replacing you. Most of the first-class conductors were spoken for. We tried to pull in Caspar from Munich, but he was already committed, so in the end we had to promote from within. You should have called us.’

‘Tell me you didn’t give it to Chiara White.’

‘She was the most accomplished with the strings, and she proved most capable of simplifying the tricky new arrangement. So, yes, and she’s working out fine if you want to know. We’ll be ready for the Royal Albert.’

Jane had no response to this. It was exactly as she feared. Her mind raced with possibilities. Could it be a joke? One of Chiara’s revenge manoeuvres?

‘Jane, I’m putting you through to HR. For what it’s worth–’

‘Don’t bother, I’ll come back to see them in person, thank you, Sir John.’ Jane hung up. She turned to her husband, ‘How much do you know about this?’ but Haruki looked as confused as she was. ‘Forget it, I’ll find out when I get back to London. Someone is playing silly buggers with me.’

The Captain approached her, and she was surprised that she allowed him to place his hands on her shoulders. He looked her straight in the eyes, ‘Jane, I think I know what your problem is. It’s very common around here, you see, we’re in a bit of a bubble. It’s easy for people to lose time.’

‘What? Are you suggesting I somehow didn’t notice that several months have just slipped by?’

‘No, I didn’t mean that you may have lost track of time. I said that you have lost time. There’s a difference. But wait around for a while and you’ll find it again. In time, you can make another telephone call. When you do, things will be different then. You’ll see.’

This is such a unique book I found and a story that I personally thoroughly enjoyed. I do hope you loved the extract as much as I do! Thanks to The author and ZooLoo’s Book Tours for the extract from the book to share with you today. Follow the tour for the book here:

Author Bio

David J Harrison

David J Harrison only realised that Lord of the Rings had been read out to him as a sleeping child when as a teenager he sought an explanation for its familiarity. On a more conscious level, he was brought up on a diet of classic science fiction and fantasy, most notably the stories of Robert E Howard, Lin Carter and L. Sprague de Camp. Little wonder that he chose psychology as his degree subject. He works in biotechnology, specialising in medical devices and is excited to have contributed towards several important new medicines. He lives in Cambridge with his wife and children who he stops reading to when they fall asleep.
