Sharon Bairden – The Sins Of The Father @The_WriteReads @BBNYA_Official @WriteReadsTours @sbairden #SinsOfTheFather #BBNYA2021 #TheWriteReads #review #blogtour #BookBlogger #PsychologicalThriller

Today is my stop on the blog tour for BBNYA finalist Sins of the Father by Sharon Bairden. I am so thrilled to be sharing my review with you all! I read this book as part of the 2021 BBNYA competition and the BBYNA tour organised by The Write Reads tour team. Thanks to all for allowing me to join, all my thoughts I bring today are honest and unbiased.

Lucas Findlay thinks he has struck gold when he marries Rebecca, but she married him for one reason only – to destroy him.

TRAUMA RUNS DEEP

When her past comes back to haunt her, Rebecca begins to disconnect from herself and the world around her. As secrets are unearthed, she begins to fear for her sanity… and her life.

TRUTH WILL OUT

With her world unravelling around her, Rebecca clings to her determination to make Lucas pay, whatever the cost.

FORGIVE HIS SINS

But someone must pay for the sins of the father…

A chilling page-turner from a sharp new Scottish voice.

I was lucky enough to be assigned this book during the BBYNYA competition final rounds. This is one book I really, really wanted to read. I loved it much but couldn’t say anything until after the winner was announced. As the finalist blog Tours began I knew I had to be a part of this one, never mind the others.

This is Sharon Bairden’s debut novel. A story set in Glasgow that takes the reader on a horrific journey that includes abuse, mental illness, nature v nurture, revenge, trauma. I could continue but you get the picture. Make sure to have tissues close by, I know I needed them. It’s a masterpiece of a novel…that’s my opinion anyway.

As soon as you start this book you will be sucked into the twisted story that has been born from Sharon Bairdens mind. It does make one wonder what she does on her downtime. One does worry about these authors you know.

A dark and so intense narrative that actually immediately made the hairs on my arms stand up. The characters that have the ability to burrow right under your skin, and in your head. Rebecca, the main character is one you keep hoping for. A childhood filled with trauma of every kind which leads to a troubled adult. This grabs at your heart and mine almost broke for her. I was invested from the first page and, yes, I found it raw, gritty and, in fact, I don’t have the words to perfectly describe how I felt. Just know this book is brilliant.

We are introduced to a fabulous set of characters, some you will love and some hate. I did wonder about the motivations of some of them as I got to know them. I never knew quite who to trust as the story developed. What I will say is no matter whether good, bad, reliable or unreliable they definitely drove the story perfectly forward.

This author has definitely put all the twists in the right places and she has the power to make me hold my breath at times. A psychological thriller that I would rate 10 🌟 if I could. I finished this and wished I hadn’t read it so quickly! I hope I have given you enough of an idea of the impact this book has, it’s not for the faint hearted it’s dark, serious, gritty and even brutal! But boy is it good!
