Today its finally my turn on the Book tour for Darker DaysTo Come by Tony J Forder. With thanks to Donna Morfett and Tony Forder for inviting me along and also this coveted copy of the book.

The DI Jimmy Bliss series continues in another gripping crime novel.

DI Bliss and his team absorb two new cases which don’t initially present as major crimes.

But who is the man who stepped in front of an express train? Did he willingly commit suicide or was he coerced? And what, if any, connection is there to an abandoned vehicle whose owner cannot be traced?

As Bliss and his team dig deeper they soon realise there are three people now missing – a journalist, a mother, and her young daughter. But as the investigations continue, the team struggle with too many unanswered questions. What they do know is that lives are at risk, and the chances of finding all three still alive decrease with each passing hour…

Jimmy Bliss number 9! What more can I say? I can guarantee when I pick up a Bliss instalment, any of them, I know I am going to enjoy it to the maximum and the emotional battering I will take is something that is part and parcel of Tony Forder’s work. I always love feeling like part of the investigations that Bliss and the team work, and this book is no different.

I personally would recommend starting at Book 1 so you can really understand and see the characters grow, develop, and change, too. These are characters you will want to know all about. I did. Darker Days to Come fulfils the promise of the title, for sure. There are two seemingly unconnected cases for Jimmy’s team to investigate. The biggest issue is that Jimmy feels deep down in his gut; they aren’t as easy as they seem.

We do see a mellowed Bliss. I know, it’s hard to imagine, but he has come to terms with the murder of his wife, years ago and seems content… even with his retirement looming. Molly is back for a while, too, and it’s great to see the paternal relationship between them. As always, they bring out the best in each other.

He may have mellowed, but our Jimmy Bliss is still his sarcastic and passionate self. The banter of the team and the strength of the characters are hallmarks of a Bliss novel, and once again, Tony Forder brings these in spades. Jimmy Bliss is a boss who makes sure he treats his team the same and ensures that they all get the recognition they deserve. I couldn’t imagine a Jimmy Bliss novel without his team around him.

Darker Days to Come is gritty, dark, and hard-hitting, but so much a personal story with our Jimmy slowly heading towards his retirement. A brilliant book and an excellent addition to Tony J.Forder’s D.I Bliss series.
