I’m thrilled to be bringing you my stop on the blog tour for Fair Game by R.D Nixon. Thanks to Hobeck Books for my copy of the book to take part today. All my opinions are my own.
It’s autumn in Abergarry.
The nights lengthen, the weather turns, and the atmosphere darkens as the community is rocked by a brutal roadside murder: a loan shark’s ‘bag man’, Craig Lumsden, is found bludgeoned to death in his car in the early hours of the morning.
The season for murder.
The case seems simple enough. and the fingers quickly point to the most obvious suspect. But things are rarely as simple as they seem…
A murder that’s too close to home.
Too close for comfort, and definitely too close for complacency for private investigators Maddy Clifford and Paul Mackenzie. Delving into the case brings at least one of them face-to-face with danger… Will life in Abergarry ever be the same again?
The second novel in the Clifford-Mackenzie Crime Series, the first being Crossfire. I would definitely say read Crossfire before you pick this up. It does refer back to events from that book, so it saves any confusion.
R.D Nixon is an author who I class as one of my go-to authors. Whatever she writes, I will read. I loved the first book in this series and was looking forward to catching up with Maddy Clifford and Paul MacKenzie.

I wasn’t let down with my high expectations of Fair Game. It begins in an explosive way, and we see Maddy and Paul being caught up in something closer to home for them. An investigation into secrets that have been long buried in order to protect everyone around them. The way this story begins is the way it means to go on until the last page.
The characters are all unique, with their own part to play within the story, and there are a few of them, too, which kept me on my toes. I found that I forgot the world around me. That’s the power of this author’s writing for me.
Another expertly spun story from R.D Nixon. With plenty of shocks and surprises along the way. The intrigue, doubt, mistrust, and sense of danger just pour out of the pages as the plot unfolds. I thoroughly enjoyed this dark, atmospheric, and tense crime thriller and am going to be waiting for the next instalment pretty eagerly!
