I’m really excited to bring you my review today for The Villa of Second Chances by the fabulous Jennifer Bohnet for Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books. Thank you to both of them for the gifted copy of the book to be a part of the tour today.
Everyone deserves a second chance…right?

Escape to the Villa in the South of France with Top 10 international bestseller Jennifer Bohnet, for an uplifting story of family, love and second chances.
Run by sisters Rebecca and Delphine, Villa Sesame is a popular venue for small intimate weddings on the sparkling French Riviera. Beautiful terraces and a horizon pool all over look the Mediterranean setting the scene to make memorable days and dreams come true.
When recently widowed Delphine unexpectedly announces her desire to retire and live a different life, Rebecca feels her own life could be slipping into free fall.
How can she possibly carry on with the business without her sister at her side? Could this be the beginning of the end for Villa Sésame and Rebecca’s life as she knows it?
As the guests gather for the June wedding of Freya and Marcus, Freya’s two childhood friends bring their own problems to the villa and cousin Verity has her own agenda.
But it’s the arrival of a certain guest who throws Rebecca’s whole world into turmoil and she finds herself asking the question, where do I go from here?

Every time I read a Jennifer Bohnet book, I always look forward to the locations as well as the characters that I meet. This time, we are swept to Antibes in the South of France and Dartmouth in Devon. Her settings are always in some gorgeous setting that whisks me away from the dreary British winter. This book was no different. Her exquisite descriptions allowed me to picture these places and feel like I would recognise them if I ever visited.
Her characters are usually older than the norm, and this really creates a great story for me being a mature woman, we shall say. It also gives the reader an interesting perspective. Her character development is again totally spot on.
We meet sisters, Delphine and Rebecca, who are the owners of Villa Sesame. It’s a popular wedding venue on the French Riviera, and we see Delphine wanting to retire. Rebecca is left in turmoil with Delpine’s revelation. As guests gather for the wedding of Freya and Marcus, there are issues all round. Then, there is a guest who sends Rebecca’s world spinning.

I love the escapism of Jennifer Bohnet’s books. The fact that it’s characters in their fifties makes them so relatable even if they are in far-flung places (to me anyway). The issues are always real-world issues, not just something that you can’t imagine.
These books are so fantastic to read, and I wonder now why it took me so long to discover this gem of a writer. I’m so happy to recommend this book to anyone who wants an escapist read that transports you away from real life.
