Beth Moran – Just The Way You Are

Today, I am happy to say I am on the tour for Just The Way You Are by Beth Moran. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for my copy of the book to take part. This review is my unbiased thoughts of the book

A novel about friendship, romance and learning to love yourself – just the way you are.

When Olivia Tennyson – or Ollie to her friends – was sixteen, she wrote a Dream List of all the things she wanted for her life, including a happy marriage and a family. But at twenty-nine, Ollie is single, living at home with her over-protective and manipulative mother, and is feeling like her dreams are getting further out of reach.

It’s time for a change.
It’s time to take matters into her own hands.
Without telling her mum, or more importantly, asking her permission, Ollie finds the perfect place to start her new life. End Cottage has a duck-egg blue front door, a garden that leads to acres of forest, and definitely counts as her dream home.
Now all Ollie has to do is complete the rest of her list and find out who she really is, before she can imagine any romance coming into her life. After all, how is she going to find her dream man in the middle of a forest…

Ollie had a dream list as a sixteen year old. Fast forward fourteen years, and nothing from the list has materialised. Her mother has done everything within her power to keep Ollie by her side. One day, Ollie arrives home to find her mum, has emptied every one of Ollie’s drawers, and has her dream list in hand. When her mum begins to mentally tick of Ollie’s list for them both to do, she flips and moves out.

Now, she has her own home and a list to follow. Will we see Ollie manage to move forward in her life without a man or her mum to pander to?

I loved this fun, contemporary, and uplifting romance. Beth Moran’s characters are well-rounded and mainly likeable. I was carried away into Ollie’s world easily and found her such a kind, caring person. She had me wanting her to complete her dream list so badly.

A novel that is fun and a light read while tackling a number of serious issues. Every single one is handled very sensitively by Beth Moran. I loved Ollie and her journey of a new beginning, and the courage she showed on the way was heartwarming, to say the least. The full cast of characters is so well defined. I was as interested in their lives, relationships, and felt they were all pretty real.

Beth Moran has written a story that shows us real life, good and bad. She has even brought the fun as well. I appreciated the depth, the humour, and the characterisation. This is an exceptionally written book that I would recommend.
