As a Kate Hewitt fan, I sat down to read and could only hope this book would be as good as her others. I really shouldn’t have worried. This author is such a skilled storyteller. She writes so expertly. I always know I will be put through the wringer when I read a book by her.
The Child I Never Had is an emotional rollercoaster of a story. Adoption is always a very sensitive topic at the best of times. Then, Kate Hewitt brings an open adoption into the fore. We have two mothers to one daughter, each taking a stand over what’s best for her. Each having to deal with their own emotions as they fight for what they want.
This book is a contemporary family drama with plenty of drama, emotions, secrets, and surprises, and it tore my heart to shreds. I understood how both Daisy’s mothers felt. One biological, the other adopted, both women loving and caring for Daisy and thinking that each of them know best. It’s a really compelling story that had me glued to the book. I felt like I was with these women. That’s how good Kate Hewitts writing is.
The characters are so realistic, and that’s what makes this such so much to this unique, complex plot. I felt for all these females, whether the mothers or Daisy. I wished I could have held them close and helped to resolve the issues that were tearing them apart. I was so invested in what was going to happen next; I didn’t even see the twist coming.
If you love a book that captivates and immerses you,with the characters and the plot too. The Child You Never Had is one you need to read.
