Murray Bailey – Cyprus Kiss

I am excited to say I am bring you my review for Cyprus Kiss by Murray Bailey. Thanks to the author for my gifted copy of the book.

Synopsis

Help Me!

Those were the words on the back of a woman’s photograph. And yet she vanished six months ago.

It’s 1948 and military investigator Ash Carter has arrived in Cyprus. A gang has been operating for two years, leaving a mark known to police as the kiss of death. Is this something to do with them? And why ask him for help?

After a murder, Carter begins to realize this is personal.

In a race against time, Carter must work out the connection between the gang, the missing woman and the murder, before it’s too late.

My Review

A thriller that’s set in Cyprus in the late 1940s. Ash Carter is a military investigator posted there from Palestine to do undercover work for Captain Bill Wolfe. He finds himself, after receiving a picture of a woman with help me written on the back, looking into something that isn’t as straightforward as he expected.

Murray Bailey really took me to Cyprus and back in time, too. We learn of the people, the cultures of the country, and the gangs that were prevalent then. I liked the fact that it was set in a country I have never visited. I felt like I was learning as well as being entertained.

This is a story that definitely had me guessing all the way. The author knows how to write a thrilling story and write it well. The characters are very well fleshed out and realistic, too. This, along with the setting, just made it an immersive read that I enjoyed so much.

A book that has everything that a great thriller should have, murder, mystery and even a dash of love. The twists were brilliantly placed in the story, just as I thought I had it sorted and knew where it was heading, boom! Another twist!

This was my first Murray Bailey book, and I wonder why I haven’t come across his work before. I loved Cyprus Kiss and am planning to read everything I can by him. I definitely recommend this for any thriller readers.
