Jørn Lier Horst & Thomas Enger – Unhinged

Today, I’m delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for Unhinged. Thanks to Anne Cater of Random Things Tours for inviting me and to Orenda Books for my copy of the book.

When police investigator Sofia Kovic uncovers a startling connection between several Oslo murder cases, she attempts to contact her closest superior, Alexander Blix before involving anyone else in the department. But before Blix has time to return her call, Kovic is shot and killed in her own home – execution style. And in the apartment below, Blix’s daughter Iselin narrowly escapes becoming the killer’s next victim.

Four days later, Blix and online crime journalist Emma Ramm are locked inside an interrogation room, facing the National Criminal Investigation Service. Blix has shot and killed a man, and Ramm saw it all happen.

As Iselin’s life hangs in the balance, under-fire Blix no longer knows who he can trust … and he’s not even certain that he’s killed the right man…

Two of Nordic Noir’s most brilliant writers return with the explosive, staggeringly accomplished, emotive third instalment in the international, bestselling Blix & Ramm series … and it will take your breath away.

The third book in the Nordic Blix and Ramm series. It’s a dark and brilliant series that just keeps giving. Horst & Enger  have clearly used their own experiences to create a realistic duo in Police Investigator Alexander Blix and Emma Ramm, who is a journalist.

The previous books in the series have been fabulous, but if you thought Death Deserved, the second book, kept you tense, on the edge of your seat and raring to find out what was actually going on…be prepared for this particular instalment. Get comfy and be ready for a long read and a conclusion that will leave you dizzy.

As always, the translation is exceptional. Megan Turney has a skill for translation, so it loses none of the authors meanings. The storytelling is magnificent, with the action starting from the very first page. Blix finds himself pulled into an investigation that’s way too close to home for him after the murder of a police officer.

I was so interested in the investigation into the murder of Sofia Kovic, who was a colleague of Blix and a close friend of Emma Ramm also. The questions this book raised in my mind as I read were never-ending. Horst and Enger have outdone themselves with this story. I felt everything that Blix and Ramm were going through. Blix’s determination to get to the bottom of this case was crystal clear, and the fact that I didn’t know how far he would push to do this made it such a tense read.

The shocks ripple through the story as it unfolds, and I, for one, couldn’t stop until the person responsible was uncovered. I was behind Blix with every step he took in throughout this book. One thing is certain after reading Unhinged; nothing will ever be the same again. I really will be waiting for what comes next.
