Nina Manning – Queen Bee

Today, I am on the tour for Queen Bee by Nina Manning, which is a psychological thriller. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the gifted copy of the book.

In the quiet village of Helesbury, Miranda Wallace prides herself on being the most popular member of her small social circle; the perfect friend, the best mum – the queen bee.

Until one day, Verity arrives. Cool and indifferent, Verity is everything Miranda isn’t, but she threatens to shatter Miranda’s picture-perfect life.

Suddenly plagued with insecurities, Miranda is certain Verity is hiding something. And Miranda knows all about secrets and the damage they can cause, because she’s hiding some of her own.

So when Verity threatens to reveal the truth about Miranda and destroy the perfect life she’s built, Miranda knows she has to act to protect the people she loves – even if the results are deadly.

I have loved every single book that Nina Manning has written, so I was looking forward to settling down with Queen Bee.  I hoped this book would be as riveting a read as her previous release.

We meet Miranda, the Queen Bee of her friend group. Miranda revels in her role and seems to have a perfect life in the small town of Helesbury until the day Verity appears. A woman who is the total opposite of Miranda and this knocks her world of it axis. She begins to feel that Verity is keeping secrets and she should know…she has her own that she hides. Will  Verity, the newcomer, discover what Miranda is hiding and bring her world toppling down?

This is another excellent psychological thriller from this author. Nina Manning definitely knows how to grab your attention and make it so intriguing you can’t (or won’t) put the book down. Miranda isn’t a character that I was overly keen on, but boy, I wanted to see what was going to happen and discover as much as I could about this woman. She is so insecure and loves finding friends as she does struggle to make them. Once she has a friend, she is almost obsessive in her need to keep that person who woe betide if anyone attempts to get between them.

The story is told in the present day, and we are treated to flashback chapters that give us Miranda’s history. There are also occasional chapters, which are transcripts of police interviews. These all flowed smoothly, and give us the overall view to low us to get to know the events.

This is a book that had me raring to discover everything, even though my imagination ran away with me, and I made guesses throughout…wrong off course! I sped through this in no time; I loved the ending as well. It just made me want Nina’s next book soon! I will start getting withdrawals soon. I adore this author’s books; she is such an expert storyteller I am engrossed immediately.
