A novel that grabbed my attention immediately. The title and cover both demanded I read this book. An unknown author to me with a subject that is a highly sensitive issue, especially these days.
A doctor and a lawyer. Both stressed by their work, and by personal demons. Thrown together by chance, but each needing the skills and guidance of the other. Each is challenged and threatened by the law, and the impersonal way it arbitrates on fault, responsibility, and guilt.

This story explores what it is like to be a good doctor whose professional competence is challenged, and how his lawyer does her best for him. It explores the way life and death decisions are made in hospitals, and how these have a consequence not only for patients, but also for those who have to make those decisions. And how, in making them, the main players can be torn apart or drawn together.
A novel that follows a court case when a doctor is falsely accused of negligence and the defence lawyer who takes his case. I always enjoy a legal thriller and this one strikes at the very heart of today’s world.
A story about discovering the truth and just how good the legal system is in the U.K. and the highlighting of how can our NHS keep on giving razor-sharp care to a population such as ours in the state it has been allowed to fall into.
The main character’s, Nick and Antonia are exquisitely honest, and we are witness to their vulnerabilities as the story unfolds. I found this an addictive read as well as a compelling one. The intricacies of such a case for both Doctor and lawyer are brought to the fore. We explore the resilience of people and how they survive adversity when all the chips are down.
Tim Howard has put a lot of research and thought into this book, and it shows. His characters are ones that I invested in from the start and even the minor characters have their unique role in this cleverly written book.

A thriller that is both thrilling and touching at the same time. One that makes you think about the impact of a split-second decision. A very educational and entertaining read that will stay with me for some time yet.
Thanks to Literally PR for the chance to join the tour and Tim Howard for the copy of his amazing book.
