Just take a minute – before we delve into this supernatural thriller let’s admire this cover… it left me needing to read the book as soon as possible! One thing I always hope when a book has an awesome cover is that the story keeps the promise of the cover, it definitely did.
Orphaned science nerd and maths prodigy Alice Valentine wants to ace her studies. She’s spent all her life struggling to make friends, passed between foster families and care homes, isolated and lonely. Losing herself in academia from an early age, she becomes the first sixteen-year-old at her local university. Her whole world changes, but nothing can prepare Alice for the night she’s attacked by a werewolf.
But even that isn’t as strange as discovering she has an identical twin sister, Cassie.
And Cassie kills werewolves. And all the other monsters Alice didn’t believe existed.
Alice and Cassie set off to discover what happened to their parents, a journey that takes them from northern England to the edge of the apocalypse, unsure if they will save the world or destroy it.
The Arcane, a book that took me on a rollercoaster of an adventure. Following Academic Alice and Cassie, her twin sister, who kills the creatures that Alice can’t believe do exist. They go on a journey to try to find out what happened to their parents. A journey that will mean they are faced with more than they could ever have thought.
With an intriguing plot and characters that are so well-developed, I was away with these girls and out of my world. Andrew S. French has wowed me with this perfectly written and paced story. I didn’t even want to leave the book alone until I finished it.
Both Cassie and Alice are characters who are relatable and they, I am sure would appeal to young adults or teens as well as adults. This was a story full of thrills and tension that had me holding my breath at some points
If you like a book with characters that feel real and a storyline that is intriguing and thrilling, just try this you may get more than you expect. A great read, roll on Book 2!
