Katie Ward – Red Roses

Today I am on the tour for Red Rose’s. It is a New Adult book and the cover played a major part in my decision to take part. After reading the blurb my fate was sealed. I jumped at the chance

Lets have a quick look at the synopsis before I give you my thoughts. Autumn has hit rock bottom; her fear of rejection has stopped her making any progress in life and after a chance meeting with a stranger on the beach she decides to take drastic steps to change that. What she doesn’t realise is that she has just made the decision that will lead to her death. Following her journey as she seeks to make a new life and find her place in this world over the last three years of her life. Will she be able to make it count?

Red Roses is a compelling and uplifting story that shows the true beauty of life, love and friendship.

A book that I found very emotional bittersweet read. As the book begins you discover that Autumn has chosen while talking to a stranger that will eventually lead to her death. This, in a way, made me put a guard up while I was reading, so I was attempting to not get invested in Autumn and her adventure. It didn’t work, I was there, fully thrown into Autumn and the story. I found her journey of friends and self-discovery so uplifting, even though I was just waiting for the darkness to descend upon Autumn’s life. I couldn’t help it, as much as I couldn’t help taking her to my heart.

Katie Ward has done a great job of making her characters unique and well drawn, each with their flaws that makes them so human and relatable. Her descriptive writing of the places, such as Dublin, somewhere I have never been, was fabulous. I almost feel like I have really been now!

I loved this story and was captivated from the beginning, even with the knowledge of Autumn’s choice. I found it a heartwarming, sometimes funny and also uplifting adventure and I am happy I hopped on for a ride alongside Autumn on this journey.

Thanks to Rachels Random Resources and Katie Ward for my copy of the book.
