Syd Moore – The Twelve Even Stranger Days of Christmas

This is a striking book, packed with twelve stories, one for each day of Christmas and then there is a poem too, just in case you need more! It is part of a series called ‘The Essex Witch Museum Mysteries’.
Let’s just take a look at the synopsis before I tell you what I thought.

Syd Moore

As the dark winter nights get longer, prepare to lose yourself in the world of the strange. With a tale for each day of Christmas and a rather unlucky 13th, Christmas is not the only spirit in these pages. ‘Tis the season for sacrificial feasts, cultish communities and a train with a rather final destination. So wrap up warm and let yourself get lost in the world of the strange, the scary and the supernatural

A collection of short stories that range from mystery, crime and verging on the horror side of it all and everything inbetween. Syd Moore has even retold fairytales very skillfully. The first story was one I couldn’t stop giggling at. A retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, one that is brilliant!

I haven’t read any of the Essex Witch Museum Mysteries and one story is connected to one of the characters. This did build on my curiosity of Syd Moore’s previous work, so I feel I shall be adding some to my kindle now.

There isn’t one of the stories I didn’t enjoy in one way or another. Every single one is different but they all have a common thread of something strange, unusual, or slightly twisted about them. These are perfect for the dark nights now and well, we all know Christmas is coming…but with this book not quite in the same jolly way as previous years, maybe a tad darker.

A set of stories that has introduced me to an author I have been missing out on. I am glad to have at least found Syd Moore’s work now. The Twelve Even Stranger Days of Christmas is written for anyone who loves anything a bit different or unusual.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources, Point Blank Crime and Syd Moore for my place on the tour and this brilliantly strange book.
