‘The Hidden’ by Alison Knight grabbed me immediately with the cover, then the synopsis finished the job. I was dying to read this as I love Alison Knight’s work. I have read two books from her previously that all connect to this one, so knew I would be in for a treat. This book is a romantic suspense that picks up the story of one of the characters from ‘The Legacy’.

Secrets, nightmares, and a big black dog…
Montana, 1973.
Faye has found sanctuary in a simple cabin in the wilds of the Crazy Mountains in Montana with a dog called Bear. She’s a long way from her old life in England. But she knows that one day her peaceful life could be invaded by her enemies, and she keeps her guard up at all times.
Jeff returns home from Vietnam, a wounded, damaged hero, just weeks after his father’s sudden death. He finds hostile, secretive Faye living in his cabin and refusing to leave. The reading of his father’s will adds another layer of mystery to this woman’s presence.
The tension between them grows as Jeff tries to overcome his nightmares and expose Faye’s scars and secrets. The more he learns about her, the more enigmatic she seems.
When her enemies come calling, she needs Jeff to protect her. Can they learn to trust each other? And will Faye ever be safe?

Such a striking cover, again! Alison Knight’s book covers tend to stand out whenever there is a new release. This is no different, I loved it. A book that kept on giving. There are secrets, danger romance and mystery within the pages and boy it makes for a story you do not want to put down for too long. The synopsis does give an intriguing glimpse of the plot and does an excellent job of drawing you in with the air of suspense it hints at.
I do enjoy the author’s characterisations every single time I have read her book. Faye is a woman with such a back story and in this book, she has found her safe place….she thinks, until Jeff comes into her life, a man she doesn’t know or trust. Jeff himself finds a stranger ensconced in his life, well the one he has returned to anyway. All he wishes is that she will just go away, but life doesn’t work like that, well not his.
These two character’s were very believable, in fact, I still am not to sure about Jeff. He is a character that had some things about him I found hard to like. Although as the story develops we see these two clash as they attempt to try to trust each other and open up to new beginnings and to love as well.
Alison Knight brings another novel that shows us the complex nature of family relationships and the dynamics within them. With every book I have read there has been meaningful issues behind the story. ‘The Hidden’ shows us the support people need in place before they can learn to trust and love again.

Thank you Alison Knight for bringing these novels that clearly hold a small part of yourself too. A very worthy series to read. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources also for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.
