Hunter Shea – Faithless

‘Faithless’ by Hunter Shea is yet another Flame Tree Press published book and an author whose work I love! So I was really happy to join this tour as Hunter Shea never disappoints, every book has been as good or even better than the book I read before.

Hunter Shea

How do you survive hearing your family being brutally murdered over the phone? For Father Raul Figueroa, all faith and hope are lost. Turning away from the priesthood, he retreats to his aunt’s empty farmhouse in upstate New York, hoping to drink himself to oblivion. But he’s not alone in the house. Something is trying to reach out to him. Or is he losing his grip on reality? When his childhood friend Felix comes to visit, things take a darker turn. The deeper they dig into the mystery, the closer they get to hell breaking loose.

The first chapter in this book had me wishing I could read this book in one full sitting. It was THAT good! It wasn’t an easy read., far from it. The fact that Father Raul Figeuora is a witness to his family’s murders is a brutal start for me.

He turns into a shadow of his normal self and isolates himself away from the world just living in his guilt, grief and loss. Hunter Shea has written this so well that Raul’s grief is so vivid I could feel it as I read. This is also because the characterisations are excellent as I find with this author’s books. I always connect with them no matter which book it is by him.

A story that is fast-paced, brutal, emotional, chilling and creepy as well. One thing I can say is that the author always writes a book that is original with a storyline that isn’t easily guessed. Faithless is one of them and I loved the twist that I wasn’t expecting. The story cranks up the tension after this and I loved it.

Thanks to Anne Cater of Random Things Tours and Flame Tree Press for the copy of the book.
