A romantic comedy by a new author for me, again! I will never tire of saying I love my hobby of book blogging. It brings me a multitude of authors I would never have discovered if it wasn’t for being invited to blog tours. Evie Alexander is another little gem that I am so happy to have been introduced to.

Highland Games is the story of Zoe, who stays on the safe side of life as her parents wanted her to. Until the day she inherits a rundown cabin in the Scottish Highlands from her Great – Uncle. At this point she decides it’s time to totally transform her life. What seems like a fabulous idea in London soon changes as she faces life with no running water, no electricity, a leaking roof and to top it all…no front door! Her problems just go from bad to worse as she moved in the middle of winter and her next-door neighbour (who isn’t the ugliest) wants her gone for good!
Rory has his own issues that include Zoe taking ownership of what he thought was his cabin… and the fact she has turned his life upside down. he needs her gone from Scotland and away from his life soon! It’s a shame for him that Zoe isn’t planning on going anywhere. Let the games begin!

What a side-splitting, ugly kinda laughing, funny and romantic story this is. I love this kind of book. One of them that I plan to read a few pages of and 6 chapters later I tear myself away.
Evie Alexander’s debut novel ticks every box. Her style of writing is fabulous. The setting is so well described I felt like I could see it. The characters are so real and well-drawn, quirky, unique and flawed. Zoe is a cracker with her one-liners and her feisty attitude. I loved her bravery as well, I don’t think I could ever move as she did. Rory is a grumpy man who, at first, does his best to get her out of that cabin, until he realises he is being a total idiot and begins to attempt to make up to Zoe. The best bit is when they realise they have fallen for each other but they both think the other one truly cannot stand them.

The romance in this story builds up and, well, there are a few steamy scenes that prove Zoe’s and Rory’s chemistry is as real as it gets! Well, I needed no more proof anyway! These were well-written scenes and Evie Alexander managed to hold my attention through them, but, I do have to say after the build-up they should have done. The pace of the story was perfect, and the tension between Rory and Zoe was a perfect foil to the chemistry and conclusion of the book.
I am really happy to report this is the first in a new series and I really hope there is a blog tour for every single book. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Evie Alexander for the copy of the book.
